SsangYong Chairman generations

The SsangYong Chairman is a full-size rear-wheel drive luxury car that has been produced for 10 years since 1997. One funny story is related to this huge sedan. Even at first glance, the Chairman was very similar to the old Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which was not surprising, as the first generation car was built on the Mercedes-Benz platform. However, the Mercedes-Benz E-class (W210) was used as the basis. Mercedes-Benz management was horrified when they saw the Korean model and demanded that SsangYong redesign the car so that it looked less like a German product and refrain from selling it in developed export markets like Europe and the United States. And yet the car continued to be produced until 2017. The first generation was equipped with Mercedes-Benz engines with the volumes ranging from 2.3 to 3.6 liters and a 5-speed automatic transmission. The second generation received engines with the volumes ranging from 3.2 to 5 liters and a 7-speed automatic transmission. The units, including all-wheel drive systems, were German.
