Volkswagen. In anticipation of the updated Touareg
The Volkswagen Touareg is a stylish 5-seater SUV with a large choice of comfort and safety options, produced since 2002. It has been 5 years since the release of the third generation, so fans of the German SUV are looking forward to the restyled model. And it will appear soon: the prototype is being tested in the Arctic Circle. In May 2023, Volkswagen will demonstrate a new production Touareg. In anticipation of the updated SUV, we will share with you everything we already know.
The third generation Touareg has acquired brutal forms, a huge grille and numerous chrome elements. The manufacturer believes that such changes will make the vehicle more appealing for Chinese buyers. Reorientation towards China is the main vector of Touareg development. Even the first official presentation of the Volkswagen car was held in Beijing.
Exterior
Despite the fact that the photos of the updated 2023 Volkswagen Touareg don’t reveal the vehicle, we can safely assume that the SUV will receive new headlights (HD LED Matrix), each block of which consists of 19,200 micro-LEDs. They not only provide maximum light intensity without dazzling other road users, but also mark the lane, illuminate pedestrians and traffic signs. A fashionable light strip will stretch along the radiator grille, connecting the headlights. There will be the same strip at the back, and the rear optics will also be updated. In addition, the Touareg will be the first Volkswagen model to feature a glowing logo.
Interior
It is expected that the interior will also be updated, with the soft upholstery materials appearing on the sides of the center console. The top-end versions will probably keep the old Innovision Cockpit: a 12.3-inch display for the dashboard and a 15-inch touchscreen for the multimedia and climate control systems, visually combined into a solid panel that is arranged around the driver. The multimedia system will get a new (faster) processor, an updated graphical interface and wireless connectivity to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV will also feature an overhead display, 4-zone climate control, night vision, and USB type C connectors with 45W fast charging (compared to 15W for the current model).
Powertrains
The 2023 Volkswagen Touareg will still be based on the MLB Evo platform, which will automatically make it related to the current Audi Q7 and Audi Q8, Porsche Cayenne, Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga. The updated SUV will be largely unified with them in terms of powertrains. The 2023/2024 model will come standard with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The range of engines will include: a 3-liter turbo V6 gasoline engine with a capacity of 335 hp and a 3.0-liter turbo V6 diesel engine with 230 or 286 hp. All of this will remain unchanged compared to the current model. There will also be an eHybrid plug-in hybrid based on a 3.0-liter turbo V6 engine with 381 or 464 hp. The battery will remain unchanged, with a capacity of 17.9 kWh, so the electric driving range will be the same, 47 km.
In Israel, the current third generation Volkswagen Touareg is offered in a diesel version with a 3.0-liter turbo V6 engine with a capacity of 286 hp. In 2022, the cost started at 539,697 shekels.
