BMW i Vision Dee concept of electric vehicles of the New Class
An unusual harbinger of BMW’s future production electric vehicle, the BMW i Vision Dee, was unveiled at the 2023 CES Nevada Consumer Electronics Show. This is the concept car of the New Class, which, according to the creators, should turn into an intelligent satellite. It surprises both with its appearance and technology (the car was presented among the latest electronics for a good reason), and is positioned as an ideal assistant. Let’s try to understand what its creators had in mind.
International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is an exhibition held annually in January in Las Vegas, the United States.
Firstly, the car with its unusual, retro-shaped body is able to completely change color! And by the way, the BMW i Vision Dee is a sedan, not just another SUV, because the manufacturer believes that ‘the sedan remains at the core of the BMW brand’. In 2021, BMW already showed a ‘chameleon’, but the concept car has taken a step further: the BMW i Vision Dee offers a palette of 32 different colors, and the body is divided into 240 independent segments, and even rims can change color! Color changing with E Ink Prism 3 film, low energy consumption and suitable for applications in a wide range of industries, including home appliances, retail, electronics, architecture.
Secondly, the head-up display has evolved to such an extent that it has grown to the entire windshield even touching the side ones, which display the avatar. The projector provides for operation in four different modes: the basic one includes only the main functionality, and the superior one is a real virtual world that completely replaces reality from the outside. The manufacturer’s objective is not yet entirely clear, because such functionality is hardly suitable for driving, but since “Dee” means “Digital emotional experience”, the car must comply.
BMW considers the concept car "another milestone on the road to the Neune Klasse", its upcoming "New Class" electric vehicle platform. Such technologies as a head-up display on the entire windshield will appear on production models as early as 2025.
Another technology that will make your BMW a real friend is voice. The car does not just respond to the owner, it ‘intelligently responds to you and the environment’. At the same time, the sedan’s passenger compartment is practically “empty”: touch panels on a futuristic steering wheel and a touch slider on the front panel, that’s it. There is no information about more the powertrains or other systems. It is only known that this is an electric car…
