The Volkswagen ID.4 GTX is a sports version of the Volkswagen ID.4 with all-wheel drive and two electric motors, produced from April 2021. At the premiere, held at the Tempelhof Airport in Berlin, the ID.4 GTX effortlessly climbed a ramp at an incline of 37.5%. This was done in order to underline the capabilities of the new electric SUV. The sports version almost copies the regular ID.4 externally and internally, all the main differences are in power and dynamics. The model entered the European market this summer with a starting price (in Germany) of 50,415 euros.

In Israel, the new Volkswagen ID.4 is rear-wheel drive. The cost of the ID4 PRO version is 215,437 shekels, the ID4 PRO Advanced version already costs 256,437 shekels, the most advanced ID4 PRO Premium version is offered at a price of 273,437 shekels (as of the end of 2022). All versions are equipped with a single electric motor on the rear axle with a capacity of 204 hp. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, while the top speed is 180 km/h. A battery charge with a capacity of 77 kWh should be enough for 519 km (within the WLTP cycle).

Important

Volkswagen aims to increase the share of purely electric cars in its European sales to 70% by 2030. Naturally, great attention will be paid to two other large markets: China and the United States, where factories are being built to locate models on the MEB platform (Modulare E-Antriebs-Baukasten), a universal electric mobility architecture in which everything is suitable for series production. The Germans emphasize that they want to transform electric vehicles from a niche product into a bestseller.

Exterior

Externally, the GTX version hardly differs from the ID.4, but differs in a number of design touches, such as six honeycomb position lights in the bumper, hinting at a styling connection with the Volkswagen Golf GTI. The body is adorned with GTX nameplates. The roof and spoiler are finished in black, while the roof side frame is finished in gloss anthracite. The GTX comes standard with 20-inch wheels. As an option, you can order 21-inch wheels, thus increasing the diameter of the front brake discs (358 mm). There will be a sport pack with 15mm lower suspension and progressive steering. Adaptive dampers with five programs will also be an option.

Interior

The general interior design is similar to the regular ID.4, but the decor and color scheme are different. The upper part of the dashboard and the leatherette inserts of the doors are painted in dark X-Blue (a symbol of environmental friendliness, as designed by the developers). The red accents, in particular the contrasting stitching on the seats, are responsible for the sporty ambience. A GTX logo can be found on the steering wheel, door sills and front seat backrests (perforated). The vehicle offers matrix headlights, 30-color ambient lighting, and a heated steering wheel. You can buy an augmented reality projection screen and a 12-inch center touchscreen.

Powertrains

The main difference between the 2022/2023 Volkswagen ID.4 GTX and its counterpart is all-wheel drive. A 70 kilowatt (95 hp) electric motor is installed on the front axle and a high-end 150 kW electric motor is installed on the rear axle. The combined power of the two engines is 220 kW (299 hp). Acceleration from 0 to 100 occurs in 6.2 seconds. For comparison: the 148 hp entry-level version of the rear-drive ID.4 accelerates in 10.9 seconds, the top 204 hp version does it in 8.5 seconds. The top speed of the sporty SUV is similar to the 204 hp version, reaching 180 km/h. The traction battery is identical to the ‘senior’ battery of the regular ID.4 with a capacity of 82 kWh (77 kWh is used capacity). But if the ID.4 with such a battery can travel 508-522 km (the difference is determined by the version), then the more powerful ID.4 GTX offers a driving range of only 480 km (within the WLTP cycle).

ID.Xtreme concept car.

At the beginning of September 2022, Volkswagen presented the ID.Xtreme concept car, a prototype of a future electric SUV based on the ID.4 GTX, but with a different chassis and a more powerful engine. All the upgrades are aimed at improving its off-road capabilities: increased ground clearance, aluminum underbody protection and a front power arc. The power has grown to 285 kilowatts or 388 hp.
