2020 Volkswagen Caddy Compact Van. 5th generation
Israeli buyers can currently purchase a longer version of the 2021 Volkswagen Caddy with a 2-liter diesel engine with 122 hp and a 7-speed robotic gearbox.
The Volkswagen Caddy or Caddy is a lightweight commercial vehicle first introduced by Volkswagen in 1980. In February 2020, the new, fifth generation Volkswagen Caddy premiered in Dusseldorf. The car has become more spacious and more convenient for transporting goods, has acquired a digital panel and received more electronic equipment. In addition to the standard version of the Caddy, a longer Maxi is also available.
Exterior
The 2020/2021 Volkswagen Caddy features larger wheels, a new front face design with LED headlights, a narrower radiator grille and a larger logo. The cargo versions are equipped with a tailgate, while swing doors that open in both directions are optional. The new Caddy is 4,601 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,800 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,755 mm.
Interior
The car comes with a custom digital dashboard that can offer a classic layout with round instrument scales, with a button on the steering wheel being used for switching between modes. The driver can personally determine the type and amount of information he/she may need. Together with it, the multimedia system with a large, 10-inch display forms a ‘digital panorama’ called the Innovision Cockpit. The center console houses a touch-sensitive climate control panel. The headlight control unit also became touch-sensitive. The car has a multifunction steering wheel with or without genuine leather.
But the main advantage of the new compact van is multi-functionality. The car comprises seven full-fledged seats or up to 3.7 m³ of cargo. Here are some figures. The length of the trunk compartment on the floor behind the first, second and third rows: 1,913/1,100/317 mm, respectively. The Maxi version: 2,265/1,452/629 mm. The trunk compartment is 1,185 mm wide and 1,200 mm high (1,211 for the Maxi). The volume of the trunk compartment behind the first, second and third row of seats (to the upper edge of the backs, with the subsequent rows removed): 2,556/1,213/191 liters, respectively, whereas the long version offers: 3,105/1,720/446 liters.
Powertrains
Israeli buyers can choose from three engines: petrol engines with a volume of 1.5 liters (114 hp, paired with a DSG gearbox) and 1.6 liters (110 hp, 6-speed manual transmission), and there is also a 2-liter diesel engine with 122 hp (manual transmission). The rear suspension is now spring-loaded: it is just as tough when fully loaded as before, but more comfortable when the car is empty. The car is front-wheel drive.
Equipment
The 2021/2022 Volkswagen Caddy has received many new options, starting from the parking sensor with auto-brake function to the multi-mode digital dashboard. The list of equipment includes a panoramic roof, LED optics, an electrically heated windshield, heat-protective tinting, heated front seats, a Composition+ multimedia system, 2-zone climate control, folding tables on the backs of the front seats for passengers of the 2nd row and a rear-view camera. The induction pad on the center console has a dual purpose: it recharges the unit wirelessly (Qi standard) and amplifies the signal through the vehicle’s external antennas to improve communication quality.
