The second generation Buick Excelle is a car manufactured under GM’s Buick brand, designed specifically for sales in the growing Chinese automotive market. It has been produced since 2018 as a small and relatively low power sedan with a great interior trim, at least by Chinese standards.

Revival against the odds

The first generation Excelle sedan, created back in 2003 based on the Daewoo Lacetti (also known as the Chevrolet Lacetti) by SAIC-GM, was a bestseller in China. For 13 years, more than 2.6 million cars were sold.

Therefore, everyone was surprised by the initiative of GM China to stop production of the Buick Excelle car in 2016. It no longer matters why the manufacturer tool such a radical decision. What matters is that the Excelle continued to be produced. Moreover, the second generation model was presented in 2018.

Parameters and platform

The new Buick Excelle is built on the D2XX platform from GM, the same as the 5th generation Opel Astra and the 2nd generation Chevrolet Cruze. The sedan is 4,468 mm long, 1,765 mm wide and 1,469 mm high, whereas its wheelbase is 2,611 mm wide. The trunk is quite large with the length of 1,010 mm, the width of up to 1,310 mm and the height of 570 mm, while the cargo volume exceeds 490 liters. The body is almost 60% high-strength steel. The Excelle is equipped with 14-inch steel wheels or 15-inch alloy wheels.

Engines and chassis

The 2019/2020 Buick Excel is equipped with an advanced 1.3-liter Ecotec combined injection engine and a 107 hp start-stop system, accompanied by a 6-speed manual transmission or CVT. A powerful 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged 136 hp engine is also available.

Options

The 2020 Buick Excel standardly comes with six airbags and electronic stability control, parking sensors and a rear view camera. The equipment includes: an on-board computer, a multifunctional steering wheel, an advanced multimedia system with a 7-inch touchscreen color screen with Apple CarPlay, CarLife applications, 4G LTE internet, WiFi, Bluetooth and navigation, air conditioning, a keyless entry system and an engine start-stop button, power windows on all doors, electrically adjustable and heated rear-view mirrors, power sunroof, and LED daytime running lights.
