The Nissan Rogue is a compact SUV manufactured by Nissan (Japan). The vehicle debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 7, 2007. Since 2013, this model has been available simultaneously with the X-Trail, which was sold outside of North America. Both SUVs had different exterior designs, but were identical in all other respects. The Nissan Rogue is Nissan’s best-selling vehicle in the US. It is produced at the Nissan Smyrna assembly plant in Tennessee (USA), also at the Nissan Shatai plant in Fukuoka (Japan) and at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan (South Korea).

Interesting fact

The first generation

The Nissan Rogue was created on the Nissan C platform, shared with the Nissan Qashqai and Renault Koleos. The original exterior of the first generation SUV was very different from the twin X-Trail. The vehicle was equipped with a 2.5-liter gasoline 4-cylinder QR25DE and a CVT. It could be both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive and was offered in three trim levels: S, SV and SL. The entry-level S model was equipped with an anti-lock braking system, air conditioning system, cruise control, power pack, keyless entry, and CD radio.

The Nissan Rogue SUV immediately became Hollywood’s favorite, starring in the popular TV series “Heroes” in 2007

In 2007, the vehicle starred in the then-famous TV series ‘Heroes’ about ordinary people living in different parts of the world, who one day discovered their superpowers (the ability to stop time, fly or regenerate). The indestructible cheerleader Claire Bennet received this SUV as a gift from her father. In 2010, the vehicle was restyled and was produced until 2014. In 2012, the Rogue underwent another slight restyling, after which the vehicle received a CVT sport mode and new wheel rims.

The second generation

It was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The second generation Nissan Rogue was a copy of the Nissan X-Trail. It was distinguished by an additional third row of seats, which made the vehicle a 7-seater (relevant for vehicles produced before 2018). The SUV came with a four-wheel independent suspension, electric power steering and four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system. The interior has grown to match other, larger Nissan models: Murano, Altima and even Maxim. The SUV was equipped with a 2.5-liter engine (4-cylinder QR25DE) producing 170 hp and a torque of 237 Nm, paired with an Xtronic Jatco CVT with a sports mode, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The production of the model began in Smyrna, Tennessee. The Nissan Rogue became the 10 millionth vehicle of the company. A lot of SUVs were also produced at the plant in Busan (South Korea), an enterprise owned by Renault Samsung Motors. Moreover, the Rogue became the first vehicle produced in South Korea for a Japanese automaker and sold under the Japanese brand by the Renault-Nissan alliance.

In 2016, the Rogue was Nissan’s best-selling model with a total of 329,904 vehicles sold

The 2017 Nissan Rogue: Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition was inspired by the 2016 movie Rogue One. The vehicle was painted in white or black, had a jet black interior and SV equipment: panoramic sunroof, BOSE sound system, black grille and other black elements, chrome door handles, tinted HID LED headlights, black wheel rims and Rogue One Edition badges. A total of 5,400 vehicles were sold.

In 2017, the vehicle was restyled. It received an updated exterior design (radiator grille, front and rear optics) and HID LED headlights. The manufacturer introduced a hybrid version with a 2-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an output of 141 hp, coupled with a 40-horsepower electric motor, a lithium-ion battery and an Xtronic CVT.

The third generation

It debuted in North America on June 15, 2020. Production in the USA began on September 22, 2020, and the vehicle went on sale at the end of October. The new Nissan Rogue is built on the new CMF-CD platform developed by Renault-Nissan, but the SUV’s dimensions are similar to those of its predecessor. Exterior design corresponds to the corporate style of Nissan.

The QR25DE engine was replaced by a new PR25DD direct fuel injection engine (184 hp, 245 Nm), paired with a CVT. The 2020 Nissan Rogue came in three trim levels, S, SV and SL. Later the manufacturer added another top-end Platinum version with a 12.3-inch digital gauge, quilted leather upholstery, heated rear seats, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A year later, in November 2021, the engine was replaced. The latest 2022 Nissan Rogue will be powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter KR15DDT 3-cylinder engine that produces 201 hp and 305 Nm of torque. The Xtronic CVT has been updated for the new motor.

The fourth generation Nissan X-trail will appear in Europe only in the summer of 2022. In 2021, Israeli buyers can purchase the third-generation SUV restyled in 2017. The 5- or 7-seater vehicle is equipped with a 1.3-liter gasoline engine and front-wheel drive system or a 1.7-liter diesel engine (front- or all-wheel drive system).
