Fiat 500X. Stylish exterior, authentic interior
Fiat 500X is a FWD 5-door Italian mini-crossover from Fiat, sold since 2014. In January 2018, the new first-generation Fiat 500X appeared. This model is available in Israel now.
First generation
The 5-door SUV Fiat 500X is built on the unified modular platform of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which owns a large number of car brands like Fiat itself, Chrysler, and Jeep. Therefore, the first-generation crossover Fiat 500X has a lot in common with both its platform-mate subcompact van Fiat 500L and Fiat 500 - like round headlights and grille. A similar crossover is sold under the Jeep brand and called Renegade, and it shares the same base with the Fiat 500X. Compared with the related Jeep, the Italian crossover is a little (by 20-40 mm depending on the version) longer and lower by 80 mm. Despite the common base, the cars are completely different, there are no similar motifs in their exterior and interior. Unlike its 500-series counterparts, the first Fiat 500X received a light off-road plastic bodykit, 4WD - but only as an option, and increased road clearance. The engine range is nearly the same as that of the other Fiat 500 series cars.
Exterior
The classic FWD, front-engine subcompact crossover 500X is not so small. It’s 4 meters and almost 25 cm long, the trunk volume is 245 L. Well, that’s not much, but with folded back seats it makes 910 L. The exterior is stylish and harmonious - not worse than, for example, MINI Countryman. Depending on a modification, Fiat 500X can be more or less ‘easy’. For example, the Cross version has a SUV-like body kit and the clearance increased up to 180 mm. Lounge version, on the contrary, is more urban and elegant: elegant bumpers and chrome trims look as glamourous as possible.
Interior
The interior of the 500X, as well as that of the Fiat 500 hatchback, is designed in the retro style. But the interior of the 500X is quite authentic. Fiat 500X 2018/2019 has a great interior trim. Only premium brands can be considered its competitors in finishing. The plastic inside is good both to look and to touch, and the upholstery of the seats is unexpectedly dense: such texture makes the seats very durable, which is rare for modern cars. Front seats are soft and comfortable, with a good lateral support. In the rear seats are also very comfortable - the sofa is wide and the backrest is high. Of course, there is not much space, but quite enough for a compact crossover.

The stylish Fiat 500X 2020 compact crossover is designed not only for urban driving, but also for long-distance highway tripping. The suspension travel is long enough, and it copes well with road unevenness, whether seams on the asphalt or bumps on rough terrain. However, let’s admit it - this car is definitely not an off-roader. In the safety rating, the crossover won 4 stars out of 5. The safety of an adult and a child is rated 86 and 85%, respectively.
