Lincoln. American vision of luxury and comfort

Lincoln Aviator

Lincoln is one of the most popular limo brands in the world, which for 50 years has been supplying limos to presidents of the United States… Lincoln is the icon of the American dream in the car, whose name became synonymous with the prosperity of its owner for a long time. From the date of its creation until now, Lincoln maintains a reputation as the best car manufacturer of luxury car models in the world. Lincoln Navigator is the most luxurious SUV in America. The Lincoln’s corporate traditions are big size, luxurious interior, and modern equipment. Under the Lincoln brand, only deluxe cars have been produced. The rights to use the brand belong to the Ford Motor Company, where the assembly of expensive and representative cars is established. Ford Motor Company is the world’s fourth-largest car manufacturer by production volume, the third in the US after GM and Toyota, and the second in Europe after Volkswagen.

If you imagine a luxury presidential limo, there can only be a picture of a chic Lincoln in your mind. Presidents have chosen Lincoln, and not only in the US. Lincoln 413B was created in 1939 especially for US President Franklin Roosevelt. It was the first car in the world equipped with a radiotelephone. John Kennedy was fatally shot in a Lincoln Continental SS-100-X convertible. Nixon, Carter, Reagan, and Bush Sr. preferred Lincoln limousines. The richest people of the US – such as Warren Buffett and Stephen Ballmer – chose Lincoln as well. The Lincoln Futura concept car was the first Batmobile. Even the first CD player appeared in Lincoln Town Car in 1988.

For 50 years, Lincoln has been supplying limos to the presidents of the United States… The company is named after the 16th American president

Continuing to firmly hold its position in the luxury model market in the US, Lincoln, following the trends of the time, has entered the market of smaller cars. The Lincoln range includes several families: sedans LS, Continental and Town Car, as well as the first in the American automobile industry luxury SUV Navigator, perhaps the most luxurious car in the American automotive market, and no less luxurious coupe Mark X. We are looking forward to Lincoln’s new products!

Born twice

Yes, it was not Ford who created the Lincoln company, but Ford made Lincoln cars prestigious. Therefore, the company has two birthdays. The first birth of the brand has happened in 1917, when Henry Leland, who had previously founded Cadillac, created Lincoln Motor Company, naming the company after the 16th American president. The first Lincoln car – model L – was built in order to challenge Cadillac. Despite its good performance, it was not in great demand. Leland sold Lincoln to Henry Ford in 1922 – this was the second birthday of the company. Lincoln model L was immediately upgraded, and demand immediately increased.

And by the end of the ‘20s, Lincoln was already feeling pretty good. Luxury cars were popular among the American mafia. The mafia needed three things for their grim business: maximum comfort, reliability, and dynamics. All this was provided by cars of Lincoln brand.

The first logo of the company appeared in 1927. It depicted a greyhound. This hound symbolized speed, endurance, and grace. It’s not certainly known what the current Lincoln’s logo means. There are many opinions. Some say it’s a compass with arrows pointing in four corners of the earth. Others argue that the logo is called The Lincoln Star and symbolizes something bright and chic, associated with luxury and prestige. There is even an opinion that the Lincoln logo means that the car before you is Lincoln, and that’s it.

In the ‘30s, both chic and affordable Lincoln cars entered the market. So, budget Zephyr increased sales of the brand almost 9 times, although it had an ironic nickname “car for the poor” because it was the most affordable Lincoln. In 1940, a larger Zephyr Continental appeared. With its appearance, the car formed a new class. It was equipped with a retractable tarp roof and had a spacious luxury leather interior. In 1955 a new model called the Lincoln Continental was introduced. It cost about $10,000 and was comparable to the Rolls-Royce! Continental remained the flagship car of the Ford Motor Company until 1981 when Lincoln Town Car production began.

Lincoln represents luxury and prestige in the American manner. It’s the incarnation of American ideas about what should be considered the VIP class of passenger cars. Lincoln brand is a member of the club of the most prestigious car manufacturers and can be compared, perhaps, only with Bentley or Rolls-Royce.

In the ‘70s, there was an inevitable unification of Lincoln and Ford cars. This was beneficial: the cars became cheaper and the premium brand image was preserved. As a result, demand rose. In the ‘80s and ‘90s, several other successful models came out. In 1984, Lincoln made a technological breakthrough, producing the Continental Mark VII model. The vehicle was equipped with a V8 engine, electronic fuel injection, anti-lock brakes, route computer, and electronically controlled air suspension. In 1997, on the basis of a large Ford Expedition SUV, they built Lincoln Navigator - the most luxurious SUV in America. The car was in good demand and a year later the second generation of the model appeared.

The new era for the brand began in 2006 with the MKX crossover. Further, all models, except Navigator, began to receive a 3-letter designation. Today, Lincoln’s brand has moved towards bold experiments in design. This trend can be seen in cars of the MK series, the founder of which was the model presented in 2007. It was followed by MKZ, MKS, MKT. At the same time, the brand’s corporate traditions are preserved: large size, luxury finishing, modern technical equipment.
