Mercedes GLB AMG. ‘The most versatile compact SUV in Mercedes history.’
Mercedes GLB AMG is a charged all-wheel drive version of the compact crossover GLB of the German Mercedes-Benz brand, which has been produced since 2019. It acts as an independent model. It can be either 5 or 7-seater. You could buy the first generation of this luxury crossover in Israel in 2020.
The newest crossover GLB with a body index X247 was lucky because its most powerful modification was shown just three months after the debut of the base car. The Baby G-wagen sits between the GLA and the GLC in size, while its exterior styling ideas are borrowed from the G-class SUVs. But its charged AMG version Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 is close to other ‘35’ models, which are hatchbacks and sedans of the A-class, as well as sedans and station wagons CLA.
First generation
It is produced from 2019 to the present. (data for 2020). The first AMG GLB differs from the passenger cars of this series in the gearbox. The powerful crossover has a newer and more durable AMG Speedshift DCT 8G with eight gears. The new AMG GLB 35 is equipped with an uprated version of the M260 2.0-liter turbo engine with 306 hp. and 400 Nm. All-wheel drive is equipped with an electromechanical multi-plate clutch for connecting the rear wheels. There are 5 modes of the ride electronics. They are slippery (for winter), Comfort, Sport, Sport +, and Individual. … There is a Race-Start function, which is launch control for the most efficient acceleration. Plus, the AMG version of the crossover has new springs and shock absorbers in the suspension, modified levers in the front, and a different subframe in the back. You can choose an adaptive suspension at an additional cost. Four-piston brakes with a fixed caliper and 350 mm discs are used on the front axle, single-piston with a floating caliper, and 330 mm discs are used at the rear. You can choose from 19 inches to 21 inches wheels.

Externally, the 2020 AMG GLB 35 differs from the usual versions by a different bumper and a characteristic radiator grille, a pair of additional amplifiers and a plate under the power unit, which increases the rigidity of the body, and an AMG steering wheel, sports seats, and specific decor appeared in the cabin. At the same time, the list of options retained the third row of seats, which is suitable for passengers up to 1.68 m tall.
Of course, the large and heavy crossover became the slowest among the ‘35’ AMG models. And acceleration to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds is a decent indicator yet. The CLA 35 sedan and station wagon does it in 4.9 seconds, and the A 35 hatchback in 4.7 seconds. The top speed is traditionally electronically limited to 250 km/h.
