Mercedes GLC Coupe AMG. Powerful dynamics and elegant style

The Mercedes GLC Coupe AMG is a sports all-wheel drive version with a coupe-like silhouette of the luxury compact crossover GLC of the German Mercedes-Benz brand, which has been produced since 2016. You could buy the first generation of the car in Israel after 2019 restyling in 2020.

The charged AMG cross-coupe of the popular GLC is a standalone Mercedes model. The car visually and technically shows that it belongs to the Mercedes-AMG family. Dynamism, sportiness, and exceptional performance are the hallmarks of the new Mercedes AMG GLC Coupe.

First generation

It has been produced from 2016 to the present. It was restyled in 2019 (data for 2020). The regular crossover GLC Coupe has been produced since 2016 in Germany. The car is generally similar to the GLC-class model but differs from it with a sloping roof, sharper steering, and a stiffer ‘sport’ suspension. The AMG version of the GLC Coupe, following the conventional coupe-like crossover, harmoniously combines elegant looks with uncompromising power. The wide grille and expressive wheel arches in matte plastic trim, the sloping roof, and the dynamic image immediately made it clear that this car was a true conqueror of hearts. The exclusive interior and innovative electronic equipment impressed completely.

Technically, the first AMG GLC 43 Coupe was exactly the same as the AMG GLC 43 crossover. It was equipped with a 3-liter V6 biturbo engine tuned to deliver 367 hp. and 520 Nm. The nine-speed automatic transmission 9G-Tronic is standard, but the switching times of the AMG coupe have been reduced, and an ‘honest’ manual mode was added, in which the box did not go up even when the crankshaft speed limit was reached. The 4Matic permanent all-wheel drive transmission had the same setup as the ‘big’ AMG GLC 43. The center differential distributed 31:69 thrust to the rear wheels in normal conditions. The ‘charged’ coupe had air suspension, but in comparison with the regular versions, the kinematics was revised, and other steering knuckles and ball joints were installed in front in the basic trim version. The brakes have fixed calipers and larger discs. They are 360 mm at the front and 320 mm at the rear.

The AMG GLC 43 Coupe is 10 kg heavier than the usual AMG crossover. It is 1,780 kg in curb condition. However, this did not affect the dynamics. Acceleration to 100 km/h took 4.9 seconds, and the maximum speed was traditionally limited at around 250 km/h. In comparison, the BMW X4 M40i with a 360-hp. engine had the same acceleration time. A Porsche Macan GTS with a 360-hp. engine accelerated in 5.2 seconds. Audi SQ5 with 354-hp. engine is even slower, it spent 5.3 seconds.

Restyling 2019

At first glance, there are no big changes in the 2020 model, but as stated by representatives of Mercedes, the car has undergone a pinpoint modernization, eliminating all the technical issues of the previous version and received a modern design with the trends of the rest of the company’s lineup. The new version has slightly changed in the geometry of the body, becoming a little squat, received new body kits, a radiator grille, exhaust pipes, and a modified optics pattern. The radiator grill, named Panamericana, has received a lot of vertical chrome moldings against the background of the same huge badge with a star. The optics became more modest and received a C-shaped pattern due to the expansion of the lattice. The bumper received a full-length continuous air intake with a narrowing in the middle. The hood lid remains with the same four light ribs.

The interior is made in the best traditions of AMG designers. The interior color of carbon, diluted with subtle, appropriately slipping red lines, sets the sporty tone. The seats have received massive lateral support and near sports forms. The new 12-inch center console monitor with multimedia functions and the AMG-inspired virtual instrument cluster are striking.

The new Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC + accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds!

The AMG version of the GLC 43 Coupe received a 3-liter gasoline engine with twin-turbo support, but unlike the previous one, this one produces 23 hp. more. So, the final power of the 6-cylinder engine was 390 hp. at 520 Nm of torque. These values are enough to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and limit the speed at around 250 km/h.

The second version is much more powerful! The new Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC + accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds! An aerodynamic radiator grille, which is characteristic of AMG, embellishes it. It is even more powerful and effective than the 43 series models. The radiator grille with vertical louvers in black and the trim strip in high-gloss chrome clearly show the origins of the AMG GLC Coupe from the outset. And the wider fenders and the trapezoidal tailpipe trims highlight the sporty genes of the new coupe.

The car is powered by a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces a whopping 375 kW or 510 hp. with a maximum torque of 700 Nm, which is the most powerful in its class. This incredible power is skillfully kept in check by a high-performance composite braking system. The charged ‘S’ modification is offered with air suspension, matrix headlights, and improved interior trim. 21-inch multi-spoke light-alloy wheels are available exclusively for the new Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC + Coupe.

Sports equipment such as the Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC + Coupé must always be held securely in your hands. The AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather with paddle shifters and the optional AMG DRIVE UNIT for the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes have been specially developed for this. The intuitive MBUX multimedia system comes standard with the TRACK PACE app for the ultimate entertainment experience.
