On the one hand, the first generation Rolls-Royce Dawn is a completely new car, but on the other, it has inherited its name from the rare Silver Dawn of the 50s, has replaced the Phantom Drophead Coupe and is a version of the Wraith coupe. The main difference from most of the cars of the brand is that it is designed for those who love driving independently.

Exterior

On video: Rolls-Royce Dawn 2015 year. Cabriolet.

The exterior design of this model is inspired by the luxury land yachts. Hence the unusual basic body colors: frivolous silver and blue. They may slightly distract you from the general impression that the new Rolls-Royce Don makes. Overall, it is a wide, long and heavy car without unnecessary elements, with all its exterior deliberately demonstrating wealth and power.

A folding roof may be handy in case of bad weather. By the way, it has rather unusual colors, for example, orange (‘tangerine’, to be more precise). You can raise or fold the roof by pressing a button on the center console or using the key fob. There is an optional carbon fiber and aluminum roof that transforms the 4-seater Dawn into a true roadster. But such a roof requires some manual effort from the passengers.

Interior

The cabriolet is equipped with rear-hinged doors, or, as the manufacturer calls them, ‘suicide doors’. The door frames have built-in retractable umbrellas in case of inclement weather. The interior is distinguished by true luxury, which is difficult to describe, it is better to see it with your own eyes. But those lucky ones who have seen how the Dawn looks inside assure that it is finished with genuine leather, fur, metal and wood, and there are seats with massage functions.

There’s a touchscreen infotainment system with a TV tuner, navigation with real-time traffic updates, and a powerful 18-speaker stereo system. The Dawn trunk is small suitable for only two medium suitcases. But in fact, the Dawn’s interior design depends solely on the wishes of its owner, as RR can grant any wish.

Engine and transmission

The Rolls-Royce Dawn is really powerful thanks to a twin turbocharged V12 engine with 563 hp. The cabriolet can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. The 8-speed automatic transmission is initially designed for a peaceful ride. But, despite this, the Dawn can adapt to everyday driving and is able to easily overcome any road irregularities and even railway-crossings.

The transmission is equipped with GPS, which adapts gear changes depending on whether the car is going uphill, downhill or cornering. However, the chassis is not for those who have a personal driver, but for those who drive by themselves, so you can customize it at your own preference. At the same time, there is also a Black Badge version with additional sports settings and an engine with an output of up to 593 hp.

Safety

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has tested the Dawn, as the car is comparatively rare (and sooooo expensive). But you probably don’t need to worry about the safety of Rolls-Royce cars.

Advanced safety options include a night vision system that helps drivers see animals or pedestrians when driving in the dark; forward collision warning; lane departure warning system; adaptive cruise control with night vision, and more.

Would you choose the Rolls-Royce Dawn for driving to work?
