2018 RAM Promaster City Van and minivan. 2nd generation
The RAM Promaster City is a commercial van adapted for purely urban conditions by Ram Trucks (RAM), an American pickup company owned by Stellantis. It is produced in van and minivan bodies.
The 2018 second generation Promaster City is a two- or five-seater cargo van. The vehicle has a payload capacity of 855 kg for the cargo version and 798 kg for the passenger version. The van is an Americanized version of the FIAT Doblo, a commercial model that enjoys popularity in European markets. The Promaster City is built in Bursa, Turkey at the TOFAS joint venture plant and finalized at the US FCA Transformation Center in Baltimore.
This van is called the ‘last mile’ vehicle, which delivers goods to local warehouses from logistics hubs, where the goods were delivered by tractors. Warehouses are located on city streets with difficult traffic conditions, where it is necessary to maneuver within a small space. This explains the specific parameters of the Promaster City.
Equipment and trim levels
The 2018/2019 Promaster City has two versions: Tradesman Cargo van for two passengers or Wagon for five passengers. There is an entry-level version and an advanced SLT. The SLT features a wider range of standard equipment, better seats and a less utilitarian exterior.
The simple trim level includes only basic convenience features: keyless entry, power windows, air conditioning, tilt telescopic steering wheel, Bluetooth, rear view camera, stereo system with 4 speakers, USB and iPod connectivity.
The Promaster City SLT is additionally equipped with power and heated mirrors and cruise control. There are optional 16-inch alloy wheels and fog lights, rear parking aid, remote engine start, satellite radio capability, Wi-Fi hotspot and a full-size spare wheel. Other options include a rear wiper, various roof rack and rail configurations, and partitions that separate the front seats from the cargo area.
Safety
The safety functions of the 2019/2020 RAM Promaster City include standard front and side airbags, curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag, a rear-view camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, and an anti-lock braking system. The trim levels have no technical functions for the prevention of accidents.
Engines
All versions of the 2020/2021 Promaster City come with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with 178 hp. It is only offered with front-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Load capacity
The new Promaster City cargo van can tow up to 907 kg, whereas the passenger model can tow up to 868 kg. The cargo van has a load capacity of 855 kg, and the passenger van can provide 708 kg. The cargo van model offers up to 3.7 cubic meters of cargo capacity, and the passenger van can offer 2.8 cubic meters.
