Volkswagen T-Cross. Refined performance
The Volkswagen T-Cross is a compact B-class crossover from the German automaker that has been in production since 2018. In 2020, the first generation of the T-Cross 2018/2019 model year in a 5-door SUV was available i the Israeli market.
First generation
The new Volkswagen T-Cross crossover, produced in Spain, is based on the Polo hatchback platform but is taller and longer than its predecessor. The T-Cross has a new steering wheel and a modified design of some parts. The seats are installed slightly higher, and the rear seat range has received a longitudinal adjustment – it can be moved forward or backward.
T-Cross is a typical urban SUV with black plastic trims around the body, light ground clearance, and only front-wheel drive. This is the smallest and most affordable of all Volkswagen T-crossovers – Tiguan, Tharu, Tayron, Teramont, Tarek, T-Roc. The T-Cross, produced from the new 6th generation Polo, borrowed most of the chassis elements, powertrains, and many interior details from it. The ground clearance of the T-Cross crossover was increased using higher-profile tires, original front suspension knuckles, longer springs, and shock absorbers, as well as moving the rear beam mounts down. In total, the road clearance was brought to a decent 184 millimeters under the front suspension subframe.
Distinctive features
The main difference between the T-Cross and conventional hatchbacks like Kia Rio X-Line is its original body. In length and width, it practically does not differ from the Polo, but it is almost 14 centimeters taller. Thanks to this, there is huge headroom, and due to a more vertical seating, it sits more spaciously – the front seats are raised by 67 millimeters compared to the Volkswagen Polo hatchback.

The exterior of the Volkswagen T-Cross could be called quite typical for all new Volkswagens – there is a sharp edge on the sidewall and a kind of grille. But there are also interesting things – large fog lights in the front and darkened lights in the back, visually united by a light strip. The ergonomics of the new crossover are verified, the steering wheel is adjustable in the widest range, and the multimedia system screen is set high. There are the air ducts of the climate system under it.
Volkswagen decided to give the T-Cross a sporty temper and succeeded. On the move, the crossover is distinguished by its perfected passenger habits: despite the higher center of gravity, the rolls are quite small. The suspension is nicely stiff. The steering wheel is sharp and informative. Compared to the Polo, the T-Cross, with the same dimensions, is more spacious, has a larger trunk. Also, it has better cross-country performance.
