Saab 99 – overview

The Saab 99 is a car with a longitudinal engine and front-wheel drive, introduced in 1967. It was available as a 2 or 4-door sedan, as well as a 3 or 5-door hatchback. The car was equipped with a 1.7-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing 80 hp in the carburetor version or 87 hp in the fuel injection version. More powerful versions appeared later. The engines were paired with 4 and 5-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmissions. In 1978, the manufacturer introduced the Saab 99 Turbo version with a supercharged 2.0-liter engine with 145 hp. The car was in good demand in the European market, as well as in the USA. In total, almost 600 thousand units were produced until 1984.
