The Audi Q5 is an all-wheel drive mid-size luxury SUV. In 2021, Israeli buyers have a chance to purchase the second generation, restyled in 2020. The new Q5 combines a modern and functional interior, excellent handling and good off-road performance. The first generation appeared in such movies as Charlie’s Angels (2019) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and the second generation could be seen in episodes of The Phantom Six (2019) and Tenet (2020).

Exterior

The new Audi Q5 has been designed in compliance with the corporate style, which can be described as strict, but not conservative, elegant, but not boring. The restyled vehicle looks different due to the changed bumpers, lighting, radiator grille and new rims (for the first time, they can be 21-inch). The vehicle’s silhouette is swift and harmonious, featuring a long hood, an inclined windshield, a sloping roofline. The large hexagonal radiator grille (which is actually an octagon if you look closely), the prominent wheel arches and the embossed flourishes on the sidewalls make the SUV look formidable.

Just as the Q7, this model features aluminum body parts: hood, rear door, front bumper cross member and front suspension mounts. The vehicle is 4,663 mm long, 23 mm longer than the first generation model, 1,893 mm wide (13 mm wider) and 1,668 mm high (10 mm higher). The wheelbase has also increased, albeit just slightly, by a centimeter, and is now 2,819 mm. The ground clearance is quite suitable for an off-road vehicle, amounting to 200 mm. For versions equipped with air suspension (not supplied to Israel), the ground clearance varies from 171 to 231 mm.

Interior

The interior is also elegant and laconic, featuring a beautiful dashboard (optionally digital, with a 12.3-inch screen), a pleasant multi-steering wheel design, a simple center console with an easy-to-read climate control unit. Only the provocatively protruding 10.1-inch screen of the multimedia system stands out from the slender architecture. The finishing materials correspond to the status of the vehicle. Thus, the interior comprises leather, aluminum, expensive soft plastics. The seats have a great profile, are comfortable and suitable for up to five people. The back row shifts back and forth. The trunk has a volume of 540 liters or 1,550 liters with the back row seats folded down.

Powertrains and chassis

The 2020/2021 Audi Q5 destined for Israel is powered by a powerful 2-liter turbocharged direct fuel injection petrol engine. The TFSI engine develops 265 hp, which allows it to accelerate as a true sports car. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 6.1 seconds. The top speed is also high: 240 km/h. The vehicle is equipped with a 7-speed S tronic direct-shift gearbox.

The SUV is built on the MLB evo platform, featuring an independent double wishbone suspension at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear. The vehicle is equipped with an electromechanical power steering. It comes with a quattro ultra all-wheel drive system (in normal driving modes, only the front wheels pull the car forward). There are disc brakes, with the front ones being ventilated.

For the first time, the new Audi Q5 offers a micro-hybrid system based on a 12V lithium-ion battery, which allows it to stand for long time or drive short distances with the petrol engine turned off. The MHEV system saves fuel, and the combined consumption is 8.5 l/100 km.

Equipment and trim levels

In Israel, the 2021 Audi Q5 is sold in two versions: Advanced 45 TFSI and Advanced 45 TFSI Luxury. The first version’s safety is ensured by 6 airbags, lane departure warning system, pedestrian recognition system, automatic emergency braking system. The Luxury contains the same elements plus a reversing camera, blind spot monitoring system and adaptive cruise control. A thrust vector control system with ESP is standard. After the 2021 restyling, the vehicles are equipped with the next generation MMI voice control system.

The 12.3-inch LCD screen is used instead of the familiar dashboard, called the Audi Virtual Cockpit, and comes as standard. The device allows you to receive all the necessary information in a convenient and modern way, reduce the speed and revs, view the navigation in the center of the screen, on the trip computer or in the multimedia system.
