Subaru and STi unveiled an unusual electric hypercar at the Tokyo Auto Salon held in mid-January. The Subaru E-RA is an electric four-engine hypercar with more than 1,000 hp. The sports division, Subaru Tecnica International, has been developing it for the last two years. The body and powertrain, consisting of four Yamaha engines, are ready. It only remains to complete the interior. The model is brand new and large. It is 5,010 mm long, 2,000 mm wide and 1,310 mm high. The car weighted 1,690 kg, and its wheelbase was 2,690 mm. The hypercar is designed from the scratch and has nothing to do with existing Subaru vehicles.

The E-RA is conceived and produced as part of the STI E-RA Challenge project, which aims to develop sports electrical technology. Performance tests have already begun and will last for a year or even more, and the debut at the Nurburgring will take place next year.

The future sports car is equipped with an innovative all-wheel drive system: each electric motor is individually controlled. The output of the entire powertrain reaches 1088 hp, whereas the torque is up to 1,100 Nm. The traction battery has a capacity of 60 kWh, but the characteristics of the hypercar are not yet known. They can probably be estimated by the goal pursued by the creators: to fit the lap time at the famous Nürburgring, which has long been the standard for sports models, in 6 minutes and 40 seconds. And this is far from a record when compared with an electric hypercar from Volkswagen: the ID.R completed a 20.6-kilometer race in 6 minutes and 5.336 seconds.
