Mazda CX-60. Top model for Europe
The Mazda CX-60 is a two-row mid-size SUV, launched in March 2022, for the European and Japanese markets. Mazda classifies the new CX-60 as a premium model. It is known that the SUV has become the first representative of the family of large models (Large Product Group) of the Japanese manufacturer, which will receive a new platform with a longitudinal engine, rear-wheel drive as the main one and a connected front axle. It is also the brand’s first plug-in hybrid. Let’s see what the Japanese ‘top model for Europe’ offers us.

Exterior
The Mazda CX-60 has eye-catching styling with fashionable proportions: a long hood and short front overhang, an elegantly sloped roof and 18-20 inch wheels. The big SUV is 4,745 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,670 mm high. The wheelbase length is 2,870 mm.
Interior and equipment
Very high quality materials have been chosen for the interior. The top version is finished in Nappa leather and natural wood veneer. The multimedia system has a large 12.3-inch screen. In general, the style is similar to other models from the Japanese company: large digital instruments and solid lines. The trunk volume is 570 liters or 1,726 liters with the rear row folded down. The backrest of the rear seat is divided into three parts in a ratio of 40:20:40.
The SUV is equipped according to its class: it offers adaptive cruise control (with traffic sign recognition), ventilated front seats and heated rear seats in the second row, panoramic cameras, a panoramic roof and much more. Plus, Mazda’s Driver Personalization system, which recognizes drivers by their faces and applies the saved settings to each, right down to climate control and a sound system.
Powertrains
The new Mazda CX-60 2022/2023 is Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid. The e-Skyactiv engine consists of a Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter gasoline engine and a 136 hp electric motor integrated into an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Such a system produces up to 327 hp and 500 Nm. This is a high figure for a non-sports model, and another highlight is the permanent four-wheel drive! A 17.8 kWh traction battery can travel 63 km without accelerating to more than 100 km/h. In hybrid mode, the manufacturer promises consumption of just 1.5 liters per 100 km. Using its two engines and the Sport drive mode, the SUV is able to hit 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, and there are up to four modes in total: there are also Normal, Off- Road and Towing.
Later, Mazda assigned new powertrains to the CX-60, new 6-cylinder engines. The base engine is an e-Skyactiv X 3.0-liter gasoline engine, while a superior version has a Skyactiv-D 3.3-liter turbo diesel engine. Both are equipped with 48-volt starter-alternators. Thus, they can be classified as mild hybrids. The engines work with 8-speed automatic gearboxes. The CX-60 is rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. With any engine, the front suspension is double-link and the rear is multi-link. The vehicle is equipped with an electronic KPC (Kinematic Posture Control) system, which improves handling and stability by braking the turning rear wheel.
In 2023, a new 3-row large SUV, the Mazda CX-90, the most expensive vehicle in the range and the Mazda's first plug-in hybrid in the United States, will appear in North American markets. In addition, models with CX-50 and CX-70 indices will be offered for the overseas market, and in Europe, apart from the Mazda CX-60, there will be a new CX-80.
