First generation

The first Fiat Tipo is designed on the Fiat’s unified modular platform. This platform was later used for other models of the Italian automotive group such as Lancia Dedra, Fiat Tempra, Alfa Romeo 155. First-generation Fiat Tipo has a galvanized body and a large legroom for rear passengers. The first-generation model was successful, so in 1989 it won the first prize as the European Car of 1989.

The first-generation Fiat Tipo won the first prize as the European Car of 1989.

In 1993, Italians restyled the car, so 3-door version has appeared. In Italy, Fiat Tipo was produced until 1995, but in the same 1995, production of the hatchback started in Brasil. Shortly, Tipo became the best-selling car of the local market. The Turkish Tofas factory also produced this car - there it was produced until 2000.

Second generation

In 2015, the second-generation Fiat Tipo was released as a Turkey-made FWD Golf-class sedan, while hatchback and estate options appeared in 2016. On the Turkish market, the model is called Fiat Egea, in Mexico it’s sold as Dodge Neon. The second-generation Fiat Tipo FWD sedan is available on the Israeli market today.

The second-generation Fiat Tipo won the prize as the 2016 Best Buy Car of Europe as judged by Autobest panel of judges. The judges were 26 top journalists from 26 European countries.

The 2nd generation Fiat Tipo, built on the FCA Small Wide LWB modular platform, is a small family car positioned as modern, but simple and relatively affordable. Tipo is cheaper than most competitors, including, for example, Renault Megane and Kia Ceed. In December 2015, the car won the 2016 Best Buy Car of Europe award from the Autobest board of judges. The judges were 26 leading journalists from 26 different European countries.

Fiat Tipo is in good demand in Europe: 84 789 cars are sold in 2019. FCA is planning to restyle the exterior of Fiat Tipo, and the respective photos with a restyled grille and front bumber are already posted online. The restyling is likely to involve modernization of safety and multimedia systems.
