Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover produced since 2006 by the American Ford. There are currently two generations of the Ford Edge, and each one has its own restyling version. The standard version is a FWD 5-door SUV. More advanced trim versions offer the all-wheel drive. The 2018-restyled second-generation Ford Edge is what one can buy in Israel now.

First generation

The first generation Ford Edge, released in 2006 and produced in the Canadian factory is based on the Ford CD3 platform, designed jointly with Mazda. The same platform was used to assemble the first generation of the Japanese Mazda 6, the Ford Fusion/Mondeo, the Mazda CX-9 crossovers and the Lincoln MKX, which, being a close analog of the Ford Edge, differed from it in design, expensive interior trim and rich equipment. The first-generation Ford Edge features Ford’s design with three chrome grille bars on the front of the car. The first-generation Ford Edge has earned numerous prizes and awards and was called one of the “Best Family Cars” in 2007 by AAA and Parents Magazine. It’s also called ‘2007 Urban Truck of the Year’ by On Wheels, Inc.

Restyled in the late 2013, Ford Edge crossover received a new front panel, wheels, and bumper, the interior has been finished with improved materials, there is a touch screen control instead of the traditional buttons and switches. Additionally restyled Ford Edge received three new engines. One of which was a 3.5-L Duratec 35 V6, included in Ward’s “10 Best Engines” list. All versions of the first-generation Ford Edge crossover came with a 6-speed automatic transmission. In the basic version, the car had FWD. 4WD transmission was offered at extra charge.

Second generation

The second-generation Ford Edge was released on January 1, 2015 and is still in production. In 2018, it received a restyled version. The second-generation Ford Edge is based on the CD4 platform, shared with the new Ford Fusion (aka Mondeo), Lincoln MKX, and Lincoln MKZ. And it’s also offered in both base FWD and 4WD versions in advanced versions.

After a restyling in 2018, Ford Edge received an expanded list of options and a new design. The new Ford Edge’s imposing dimensions and solidity are reflected by its flowing lines and transitions. The grille is massive, oval-shaped, and inside and around the edges are finished with chrome stripes. The optics is quite narrow - LED headlights and LED daytime running lights. The bumper is very large, and, just like the whole body, is equipped with plastic protection from below.

Ford Edge passed the Euro NCAP test in 2016 and won 5 stars out of 5!

The road clearence is 201 mm. This clearance makes the crossover a loyal friend and helper, wherever you go. Ford Edge will easily roll on a dirt track, climb a high curb, and maintain a smooth ride on a broken pavement.

The trunk of the Ford Edge has as big volume as 602 L. If the second row of seats is folded, the trunk volume is 1847 L. Thus, the car is always ready to carry a bulky cargo or take a distant trip with plenty of luggage and many passengers inside. Ford Edge passed the Euro NCAP test in 2016 and won 5 stars out of 5!
