Hongqi H6: A new addition to the brand’s model range
Introduced at the end of 2022, the new Hongqi H6 is a new addition to the model range of the Hongqi brand, which produces only luxury cars and is considered the most expensive brand of FAW, quite suitable even for elite buyers. The almost 5-meter liftback is a variation of the second generation Hongqi H5 sedan, Hongqi’s first mass-produced car: they share the same front-wheel drive platform, powertrains and design.
Chinese developers tend to use the talents of Italian design masters, but not this time. To create a signature style for the Hongqi H5, FAW hired Giles Taylor, who previously worked for Rolls-Royce. The price of the H5 sedan in China starts at 25,500 dollars, which is quite affordable, especially for a luxury car (as of 2022).
Exterior
The new Hongqi H6 looks more aggressive. Its front end is decorated with chrome ‘fangs’, with additional longitudinal lines on the hood. The brand’s stylized red flag (the word “Hongqi” means “Red Flag/Banner” in Chinese) begins from the radiator grille and stretches for more than half the length of the hood. The liftback is 4,990 mm long and 1,880 mm wide, while it is 15 mm lower than the H5 sedan (1455 mm) and its roof line is outlined more gently. The H5 and H6 have the same wheelbase (2,920 mm). Of special note are the flattened exhaust pipes located in the middle of the rear bumper. Even before the premiere, there were photos in gray, black and amazing turquoise on the Web.
Interior
The H6's interior is similar to that of the H5 (as is the exterior), but looks sportier thanks to a large three-spoke steering wheel with conventional buttons, front seats and contrasting trim trim. The stitching pattern on the black leather seats echoes the pattern on the lid of the large center armrest. The center console houses an inclined vertical display with a diagonal of at least 14 inches. There is storage space for small items, and physical keys surround the gear stick.
Powertrains
The Hongqi H5 sedan is equipped with 1.5- or 2.0-liter turbocharged engines with a capacity of 156 hp and 224 hp, respectively. The liftback comes with a boosted 2.0-liter engine with 245 hp, paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, rotating the wheels of the front axle. The Hongqi H6 will most likely appear on the home market in the spring of 2023. And then Hongqi promises to introduce five more new models, including two electric ones.
In Israel, the brand is represented by a large electric SUV, the Hongqi E-HS9, which debuted in the fall of 2020. As standard, it is equipped with two motors, and the driving range depends on the battery and is 460, 510 or 650 km.
