Update:

In 2020, the manufacturer released a restyled version of the fifth generation.

The Mercedes E-Class AMG is a powerful business-class sports car based on the popular E-series, produced by Mercedes-Benz (Germany) since 1994. In 2020, Israeli buyers could purchase the 2016 fifth generation E-Class AMG Coupe. The high-performance versions of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, upgraded by the engineers of the Mercedes-AMG division, are considered independent models.

The first generation

It was produced from 1994 to 1996. The first E-Class AMG was based on one of the most popular Mercedes-Benz models, the 124 series E-Class vehicles. In 1993, the AMG tuning studio became the official partner of Mercedes, which made it possible to build the Mercedes E36 AMG in estate, coupe and convertible bodies and the E60 AMG in the sedan body on the basis of the E320. This was the start of the AMG series for the E-Class. A 3.6-liter engine with 279 hp allowed it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km in 5.4 seconds, developing a maximum of 250 km/h. The most powerful E60 AMG with a 385 hp engine and a maximum torque of 566 Nm could accelerate to 100 km in 5 seconds and was able to develop up to 306 km/h. All 4 body types were available in the AMG versions, but only the sedan could be equipped with all the engines, and the estate, coupe and convertible could only have the basic version.

The second generation

It was produced from 1996 to 2002, while its restyling took place in 1999. Based on the W210, the second E-Class AMG was presented in several versions. The ‘weakest’ was the E36 AMG, with a 3.6 liter engine, developing 279 hp and accelerating to 100 km in 6.7 seconds. The E50 AMG was powered by a 5-liter V8 engine with 347 hp, accelerating to 100 km in 6.2 seconds. In 1998, it was replaced by the E55 AMG on 18-inch light-alloy wheels. Its hand-built 5.4-liter V8 engine generated 354 hp and accelerated from 0 to 100 km in 5.7 seconds. The custom-made E60 AMG was powered by a 6-liter V8 that produced 381 hp and accelerated from 0 to 100 km in 5.1 seconds.

The third generation

It was produced from 2002 to 2009, while its restyling took place in 2006. The third E-Class AMG was based on the Mercedes W211. The first model to be released was the E55 AMG with a 5.4 liter engine producing 476 hp. It was able to start from 0 to 100 km in 4.7 seconds. In 2007, it was replaced by the E63 AMG with a 6.2-liter engine producing 514 hp. It could accelerate to 100 km in 4.5 seconds. The sedan and estate bodies were available.

The fourth generation

It was produced from 2009 to 2016, while its restyling took place in 2013. The fourth E-Class AMG (W212) was represented by the E63 AMG with a 6.2-liter V8 engine, developing 525 hp. The car could accelerate to 100 km in 4.5 seconds. It was available in sedan and estate bodies. In 2011, the naturally-aspirated engine was replaced by a turbocharged 5.5-liter engine producing 525 hp, accelerating in 4.4 seconds. Those who love speed lovers could acquire a special AMG Performance Package that would increase the engine power to 557 hp. And the maximum speed limiter was moved to the 300 km/h mark. Plus, the acceleration time was reduced by another 0.1 seconds. After the restyling in 2013, all-wheel drive and a new version of the E63 AMG S were introduced. The car was equipped with a 5.5-liter engine producing 585 hp and accelerating to 100 km in 3.6 seconds.

The fifth generation

It has been produced from 2016 to the present (as of 2020). Based on the W213 body, the new Mercedes E-Class AMG, in addition to the sedan and the estate, is finally available in coupe and convertible variations. The first model was the E43 AMG, equipped with a 3-liter V6 engine producing 401 hp. The car accelerated to 100 km in 4.6 seconds. In 2017, the company introduced the powerful E63 4MATIC+ and E63 S 4MATIC+, equipped with a 4-liter V8 engine with 571 hp and 612 hp, respectively. The top speed has been limited to 250 km/h or optional 300 km/h for both models. Acceleration to 100 km occurred in 3.5 seconds and in 3.4 seconds for the S-version. In 2018, the E43 AMG was replaced by the E53 4MATIC+. This model, equipped with a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, produces 435 hp. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h or optionally to 270 km/h. Acceleration to 100 km occurs in 4.5 seconds. The car is also equipped with a hybrid EQ Boost system, which is a starter-generator located on the ‘tail’ of the crankshaft, powered by a 48-volt electrical system, increasing efficiency by 22 hp and 250 Nm. There are two 2020 restyled versions: the E53 4MATIC+ and the E63 S 4MATIC+.

The 2020 Mercedes AMG E 63 S is equipped with dynamic engine mounts. Depending on the situation, their variable stiffness can improve driving comfort or improve engine response to driver actions. According to the manufacturer, this is the only car in the class using this solution.

The restyled AMG version is inspired by the restyled E-Class, but at the same time it has many original elements. The 2020 Mercedes AMG E 63 4MATIC can really take your breath away! The car can boast of the developed air intakes on the front bumper, the radiator grille equipped with vertical bars, and the enlarged rear diffuser. The car is equipped with 19 or 20-inch wheels. At the rear, it is decorated with a carbon spoiler on the edge of the trunk, 27 mm wider wheel arches, and exhaust pipes. There are also several new exterior colors: Graphite Gray, High-Tech Silver and Matt Blue from the Magno collection, previously only available on the AMG GT models. In addition, the buyer can choose from several exterior design packages.

The interior of the 2020 Mercedes E-Class AMG was also inspired by the modern Mercedes-Benz models. The MBUX multimedia system is now controlled by a more convenient track-pad. The steering wheel now has double horizontal spokes with touch buttons. The new voice assistant comes to life when you say ‘Hello, Mercedes! ’. The interior of the AMG version differs from the standard E-Class models by seats with developed lateral support, carbon inserts on the doors and dashboard, as well as by the contrasting stitching on the leather. The car settings menu has additional items, and the digital dashboard can boast of unique graphics.

The new E 63 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. In the basic version, the engine produces 571 hp and 750 Nm of torque, and the S-version produces 612 hp and 850 Nm. Depending on the degree of engine boost, the sedan accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.5 and 3.4 seconds, respectively. The estate does it in 3.6 and 3.5 seconds. Moreover, the S version is equipped with dynamic engine mounts. Depending on the situation, their variable stiffness can improve driving comfort or improve engine response to driver actions. According to the manufacturer, this is the only car in the class using this solution.
