Mercedes-AMG G-class is a range of powerful high-performance vehicles developed based on full-size four-wheel drive off-road SUV models from the German Mercedes-Benz company that has been in production since 1994. In 2020 the Israel market offered second generation models of the exquisite off-roader of the 2018 model year.

The 5-door and 5-seat Mercedes-AMG G-class 2018/2019 has the following measurements: 4873 mm in length, 1984 mm in width and height, and 2890 mm in the wheelbase area. The minimum trunk volume is 667 liters, the maximum is 1941 liter. The ride height is 241 mm.

Distinctive features

The main distinctive feature of the second generation vehicles in comparison with the older versions is that from feisty and aggressive-looking off-roaders they turned into more elegant and somewhat exquisite cars. The exterior of the Mercedes G-class 2018/2019 model did not change that much – it has still got that square shape to it with its familiar silhouette. While keeping the old look of the car, the designers also managed to incorporate some more advanced technological features into it. The radiator grille of the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 has now got a bigger three-pointed star brand logo attached to it, with an extremely powerful twin-turbocharged V8 motor ‘hiding’ behind it and with new vertical slats on the outside of the grille. Among other design elements that add to the expressiveness of the AMG model are the unique AMG front bumper mudguard and radiator grille frame, outside moldings with some added molding strips, elegant lightweight wheel discs, as well as wheel arch extensions, and red AMG wheel brakes. Expressive exhaust pipes at the sides of the vehicle are yet another unique feature of the car.

As for the passenger compartment, it has considerably improved its comfort characteristics and functionality as well. Great power performance calls for great controllability – which is possible thanks to the sport-styling AMG Performance steering wheel made of carbon fiber and with special DINAMICA microfiber covers attached to it. Aluminum paddle shifters and a zero speed line also give the model a bit of a racing car vibe.

Modifications

The four-wheel drive off-road SUVs are equipped with gasoline turbocharged V8 motors of 4 liters, but their power capacity may vary from 585 to 700 and even 800 hp, their maximum speed being 220-240 km/h respectively. The ‘0 to 100 km/h’ time is 4,1 seconds for the 800 hp motor, and 4,5 seconds for the 585 hp one. The fuel consumption is different for each of them, too – about 13,3-13,1 liters per 100 km respectively.

Trim versions

No matter the trim version, all-new G-class vehicles are absolutely brilliant. Leather-trimmed seats, black headliner, pedal covers and door sill scuff plates, sports front seats, decorative moldings, as well as automatic headlight control, and R20 and R21 alloy wheels – all this gives the new AMG model its unique sporty look.

All trim versions of the Mercedes-AMG G-class 2020 offer at least 7 airbags, central locking, cruise control, ABS and ESP, advanced multimedia installation with voice control, a navigation system, advanced power pack, a defrosting option for side mirrors, and a heating option for front seats, active power steering system, front and rear parking sensors, 1-zone/multi-zone climate control option, multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, keyless ignition option, engine start button as well as many other useful options.
