The new Tundra is now a hybrid
The new model, which is sold in the USA, was also developed there. The third generation Toyota Tundra comes only with a 4-door double cab, which make the car perfect for family use. Just as before, there are two cab options. The first is the standard Double Cab version with a 2 or 2.5 meter long cargo body, while the second is the longer CrewMax version, which provides 1.7 or 2 meters for cargo. The exterior of the pickup demonstrates the new Technical muscle design, created by the California studio team of Toyota.
The new, more rigid frame makes it possible to increase the payload: the new Toyota Tundra can carry 880 kg of luggage, and the weight of the towed trailer has increased to 5.4 tons. At the same time, the new suspension has become more sophisticated, with the rear axle featuring springs instead of shock absorbers. The vehicle still has a double-wishbone suspension at the front. The options include a pneumatic suspension with the ability to adjust the ride height and the TRD Sport package with a low boost or TRD Off-Road, as well as the extreme TRD Pro, which gives an increase in ground clearance by 28 mm, a thicker front stabilizer, additional protection underneath and off-road tires.
However, the engine of the new Tundra has become somewhat ‘slimmer’. This is a 3.4-liter biturbo V6 petrol engine installed on the Land Cruiser 300. It is slightly more powerful than the old 8-cylinder engine, developing 394 hp and 649 Nm. It comes with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. The model can be rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, there is a speed-reducing gear.
Most importantly, the 2021/2022 Toyota Tundra will go hybrid! The hybrid modification makes it possible to drive on pure electric traction at speeds up to 29 km/h, while the total output of the power system is 443 hp and 790 Nm.
The vehicle has new, fast multimedia system with a 14-inch screen, voice control and other modern features. The list of options is traditionally diverse, and the modern Safety Sense 2.5 package of electronic assistants is included in the basic equipment.
