Nissan Frontier Pickup. American from Japan
The Nissan Frontier is a classic double or 1.5-cab body-on-frame pickup produced in the United States since 2004, well known in various markets under the name Navara. In 2021, American buyers received their domestically-made vehicle with the exact same name, but a completely different spirit and content. The new Frontier has nothing to do with the global model anymore. However, the technical basis has largely remained the same. Meet the new Nissan Frontier 2021.
The Nissan Frontier of the first two generations, known as Navara or NP300, was sold in different countries: Americas, Asia, Europe, and Russia. The vehicle was a mid-size pickup, but everything changed in the third generation. The vehicle has "grown up" and is now focused exclusively on North American buyers.
Exterior
An independent and ‘adult’ Nissan Frontier with a length of 5.3 meters was unveiled on February 4, 2021. The model is targeted at the USA and Canada. In length, the vehicle has grown by 13 cm when compared with second-generation models. The pickup is built on a chassis with a high-strength steel ladder frame borrowed from the previous model and thoroughly redesigned. There are different versions: with one and a half or double cabs. The double cab versions have wheelbase modifications and different length of the loading area: 1,510 or 1,860 mm. According to Nissan, the Frontier’s load capacity is 730 kg, while towing capacity is limited to three tons.
Interior and equipment
The body of the 2021 Nissan Frontier is all-new, inspired by the Nissan Titan, with improved noise isolation and retuned suspension and steering. 9 colors are offered. The vehicle comes with analog gauges, with a 7-inch color screen between them. The multimedia display (8 or 9 inches) is inscribed in the center console and is accompanied by mechanical buttons and switches. The pickup is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, WiFi, wireless charging for a smartphone. And the new Zero Gravity seats are designed to make long-distance trips truly comfortable.
The vehicle has a set of electronic assistants Nissan Safety Shield 360, without the Pro-Pilot Assist function: an emergency braking system with pedestrian recognition, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assist and automatic high beams. There are also all-round cameras, a forward collision warning system and tire pressure monitoring, as well as eight airbags. Intelligent cruise control is optional.
Engines and chassis
The wide hood of the 2021/2022 Nissan Frontier hides a 3.8-liter V6 naturally aspirated engine. The unit develops 314 hp and 380 Nm. It appeared a year ago, but was considered modern enough to be transferred to the next generation without changes. The engine ‘cooperates’ with a 9-speed automatic transmission and a rear or all-wheel drive system (the front axle is connected rigidly). The pickup features an independent double wishbone suspension at the front and a leaf spring suspension at the rear.
