2020 Genesis G80 Sedan. 2nd generation
The second generation Genesis G80 sedan can be distinguished by functional engines and a lower price, but not only by that. The G80 doesn't try to disguise itself as a high-end car, as this is a real luxury car, the only significant drawback of which is that the Genesis brand is not yet widely promoted.
Positioning
The 2020 Genesis G80 falls somewhere between the smaller G70 and the larger G90 sedan and competes with such luxury midsize cars as the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6, Volvo S90. The G80 offers a relaxed driving experience, sharp steering and reliable brakes. The sedan is not as sporty as some of its competitors, but it is better suited for long journeys.
Interior and exterior
Overall, the exterior of the 2020/2021 Genesis G80 has remained practically the same as that of the first generation. This is still a well-built, composed, discreet, elegant car that will look good both near the office and near the Hilton while waiting for its owner in a tuxedo, who is having fun at a party.
The new G80 offers a truly elite interior with elegant dashboard design, soft-touch surfaces and expensive finishes. The steering wheel has an unusual ‘space-inspired’ look, and there is a 12.3-inch digital instrument display as the center of the G80's infotainment system. The display can be operated via a round controller in the center console, as well as buttons on the steering wheel and voice commands. Every car comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The powerful Lexicon sound system with various sound modes is part of the infotainment system.
While the G80 lags behind competitors in the trunk capacity, fans testify that it can fit five mid-sized hand suitcases, which is quite enough for a luxury model. By the way, competent experts declare that the G80 surpasses all cars in its segment in terms of the coating quality. Genesis has achieved unrivaled heights in durability and retention of body and transmission coatings.
Engines and chassis
The base model of the 2021/2022 Genesis G80 is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine that develops 304 hp. Those who look for faster acceleration will find a powerful 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 375 hp (it is not supplied to Israel). Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (in Israel, only a rear-wheel drive option is available). The G80's suspension is well damped, not too soft, but absorbs road bumps with great appetite, ensuring a comfortable ride.
Safety
The new Genesis G80 has predictably earned the highest, five-star NHTSA crash test rating, continuing the glorious tradition of the first generation when it was named ‘Top Safety Pick’ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
In addition to a well-designed body and a complete set of every imaginable standard 21st century luxury car safety systems, every G80 offers such options as forward collision warning system, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning system and lane keeping assist.
