The restyled version of the 2018 Genesis G90 five-seater sedan differs little from the base model of the first generation for two reasons. Firstly, it has recently entered the market, and secondly, it was originally made in a very qualitative and diligent manner in order to compete with the Mercedes and BMW brands, which it does very successfully.

Exterior and interior

The 2018/2019 Genesis G90 can boast a very good design developed in compliance with the Elegant Athleticism concept, fulfilling all the requirements for modern luxury cars. The restyled model has the same design and, although almost all panels have been changed except for the roof and doors, the G90 looks as close to impeccability as before. But if you look closely, you can see that the restyled version is slimmer, clearer and looks even more expensive, ‘more luxurious’.

The interior have been subjected to even fewer changes than the exterior, since it was originally very good. However, the new Genesis G90 has acquired an even more modern infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and several new driver assistance features, in particular, lane keeping assist function while driving on the highway.

The interior, finished with expensive quality materials, gives the impression of humble luxury. It has heated and cooled front seats, head-up display, and power rear sun visor. A 0.4 cubic meter trunk compartment is not very big, but the car offers additional space for long and narrow objects behind the rear center armrest.

Engine and chassis

The base engine of the 2019/2020 Genesis G90 is a 3.3-liter turbocharged V-6 engine with 365 hp. You can also install a 5-liter V-8 engine with 420 hp. Both power units are mated to a very responsive 8-speed automatic transmission. The car is offered with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The suspension is tuned for a soft ride, but with precise and easy handling.

The new Genesis G90 can drive very fast, does not roll over when cornering, is more adapted for long journeys, and is capable of overcoming obstacles almost imperceptibly for the driver. Plus, the engine is quiet at almost any speed. At the same time, it is noted that the reliable and strong G90 engines are not very fuel-efficient on the highway, while the Cadillac CT6 and BMW 7-Series can offer better indicators.

Trim levels

The 2020/2021 Genesis G90 comes in G90 3.3T Premium and 5.0 Ultimate versions. The Premium version is equipped with a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine. It also has:

  • 19-inch alloy wheels;
  • adaptive suspension dampers;
  • sunroof;
  • three-zone automatic climate control;
  • electric side and rear sun visors;
  • heated steering wheel and many other advanced options.

The 5.0 Ultimate is equipped with a 5-liter V8 engine. It has everything that the Premier has, but offers some additional options such as a rear-seat entertainment system and ventilated folding rear seats with lumbar adjustment and memory settings.

Safety

The new Genesis G90 has a ton of safety and driver assistance options:

  • forward collision avoidance system (warns and engages the brake);
  • adaptive cruise control;
  • lane departure warning system (can autonomously turn to keep the car in the lane);
  • blind spot monitoring system with rear cross traffic alert;
  • blind spot camera;
  • driver fatigue warning system;
  • 360-degree camera system, and this is not the whole list.

In addition to a complete set of modern safety devices, the car design itself is very safe, so the 2020/2021 Genesis G90 won the 2021 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
