Subaru Crosstrek. New generation and new life
The Subaru Crosstrek is a compact SUV, known in Israel and America as Subaru XV. In 2011, the model ‘spun off’ from the legendary Impreza. In 2017, the vehicle arrived in the USA as Crosstrek, essentially being the second generation XV SUV. In the country of endless roads, the vehicle was very well-received. Therefore, in the summer of 2023, a decision was made to produce the second generation Crosstrek at the Subaru plant in Indiana. A new generation and a new life.
Exterior
The SGP (Subaru Global Platform) platform that gave birth to the Crosstrek has been upgraded, so the 2023 SUV has acquired a stiffer body and improved steering. And the design (and this is traditionally a weak point for Subaru, which is even admitted by the fans) has turned out to be much more modern, albeit classic for the manufacturer. The SUV has kept its dimensions almost unchanged: it is now 4,480 mm long (5 mm shorter), 1,800 mm wide and 1,580 mm high. The ground clearance is 200 mm. The compact vehicle comes with 17-inch or 18-inch wheels.
Interior and equipment
Inside, the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek looks similar to the new generation Subaru WRX. But the vehicle is equipped with an analog dashboard, which is not immediately noticeable against the background of a large, 11.6-inch, ‘tablet’ of the Starlink media system with physical controls. However, the basic equipment includes a 7-inch touch screen (controls air conditioning and other functions). The mentioned 11.6-inch display is only available for expensive versions. High-quality seats and the indescribable ‘Subaru spirit’ create a sporty atmosphere, for which the Pleiades are loved all over the world.
Subaru was named after the Japanese name for the Pleiades star cluster, which is clearly visible in the sky with the naked eye. It comes from the verb "subaru", meaning "to be brought together".
The entry level version of the new Crosstrek comes with EyeSight electronic assistants (including automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring system, rear cross traffic alert, a 360-degree camera and driver status monitoring system), Active Torque Vectoring, which helps to keep the trajectory with the help of standard brakes, and X-Mode off-road mode, which makes life easier for the driver on rough terrain.
Powertrains
The new 2023 Subaru Crosstrek is equipped with either a 2.0-liter engine with 154 hp and 197 Nm (this is a Japanese version that will come for sale in the spring), or a 2.5-liter engine with 185 hp and 241 Nm. The Japanese have kept for themselves models with e-Boxer hybrid system, comprising a 2.0-liter engine with 145 hp paired with a 14 hp electric motor. All Crosstrek models have received a Lineartronic V-chain CVT and all-wheel drive.
