Suzuki Jimny has received a 5-seater version
The Suzuki Jimny is a miniature 3-door all-wheel drive SUV produced by Suzuki since 1970. In 2018, the market offers the 4th generation of this compact, but serious SUV with a body-on-frame structure and all-wheel drive. In 2023, the SUV’s 5-door version with a longer wheelbase was presented at the 2023 Auto Expo Motor Show in India. The version was developed by the Maruti Suzuki joint venture, which will also produce cars for the markets of different countries. On the domestic market, the sales of the 5-door Jimny will begin in May 2023, then the car will go for export.
In Israel, the new Suzuki Jimny is available in a 3-door version with a 1.5-liter engine with 102 hp, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The cost starts from 151,815 shekels (as of the end of 2022).
Exterior
The new 5-door Suzuki Jimny comes with a longer wheelbase and a 340 mm longer body length. The wheelbase is now 2,590 mm and the length is 3,985 mm, as cars under 4 meters are subject to preferential taxes in India (the length of the 3-door version in Japan is 3,395 mm, the global version has grown to 3,645 mm). The width has remained the same, 1,645 mm, while the height has been reduced by 5 mm (1,720 mm). From the 3-door Jimny, the 5-door version has borrowed the recognizable round headlights, a signature grille, a rear end with a side-opening rear door, and numerous interior elements. But the front doors of the new version have turned out to be shorter to facilitate entry and exit. The presented car features a black roof, contrasting with the main color Kinetic Yellow. It has the same 15-inch wheels (195/80) and a spare tire at the rear.
Interior
The interior of the longer version is almost entirely moved from the short SUV, including the branded handrail on the dashboard. The car is still designed for four people. The volume of the trunk has increased (208 liters versus the previous 85 liters). The folded rear seats will increase the volume to 332 liters.
The 5-door Suzuki Jimny features a multimedia system with a 9-inch screen and compatibility for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functions, a rear-view camera and an Arkamys sound system. The list of equipment includes hill start assist and hill descent control systems, as well as 6 airbags, ESP and electronic brake force distribution (EBD).
Powertrains
The 2023 Suzuki Jimny has kept the same mild-hybrid system, based on a 1.5-liter K15B gasoline engine, supplemented by a starter-generator. The total output reaches 105 hp and 134 Nm. There are 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearboxes to choose from. The transmission is perfect for off-road conditions, featuring a rigidly connected front axle and a reduction gear range. The clearance of the 5-door version is the same as that of the short version: 210 mm.
