In 2020, the second generation SUV was restyled. The restyled version can now be purchased in Israel.
Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact J-class crossover from the German Volkswagen group, which has been produced since the end of 2006. There are front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive crossover modifications. In 2020, the second generation of the 2016 Tiguan in a 5-door SUV was available on the Israeli market.
The name Tiguan is made up of two German words: ‘Tiger’ – tiger and ‘Leguane’ – iguana. Since the release, two generations of crossovers have been designed. The first one was intended for urban driving and the second was designed for fans and lovers of a sports drive while driving. In general, the creators of the Volkswagen Tiguan managed to combine a frisky passenger car, a traversable crossover and spacious car for a large family in one car.
First generation
The first-generation Volkswagen Tiguan was produced from the beginning of 2007 to 2017, going through facelifting in 2011. The ancestor of the Volkswagen Tiguan can rightfully be considered the Volkswagen Golf II in Country performance. For Volkswagen, the first Tiguan made its debut in the SUV class. Compared to the big brother of the Touareg, the first-generation Tiguan received the look of a serious road conqueror. It had an impressive ground clearance of 200 mm, large-diameter wheels, high seating position, wide rear body pillars.
The basis of the first Tiguan was the platform for the fifth and sixth generation of Golf (PQ35). More than two dozen models of the German company were built on it – Golf Plus, Touran, Caddy, Scirocco, Beetle, Jetta, and cars with similar characteristics – Octavia, Skoda Yeti, Audi A3/Q3/TT. The safety of the first Volkswagen Tiguan is maintained at a high level, which was confirmed by the maximum five stars earned in the EuroNCAP crash test.
The facelifted 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan received an updated exterior that reinforced its similarity to the Touareg. The main changes concerned the installation of discs of the original design, improved LED optics, a massive grille made of chrome, the shape of the bumpers, and some renovation of the interior.
The name Tiguan is made up of two German words: ‘Tiger’ – tiger and ‘Leguane’ – iguana. The creators of the Volkswagen Tiguan managed to combine in one car a high-spirited passenger car, a passable crossover, and a roomy car for a large family.
Second generation
The second generation Volkswagen Tiguan, released in 2016, is still being produced. The second Tiguan, built on the Volkswagen MQB platform, has become wider, lower, longer, and lighter than the first. The increase in wheelbase has led to more space inside the cabin and in the trunk. The exterior of the second Tiguan remained recognizable, although it acquired more strict outlines. The engine has been modified to comply with Euro 6 environmental standards.
The advantages of the second generation Volkswagen Tiguan include its speed, smooth operation of the automatic transmission, good noise insulation and quality of finishing materials, good ergonomics, and high-quality lighting. And safety is also on top! Even in the simplest configuration, the new Tiguan is equipped with ABS, ESP stabilization system, six airbags. Like the cars of the first generation, the crossover confirmed the maximum safety rating in EuroNCAP crash tests.
