Volvo XC60. Safety and comfort
In 2021, the manufacturer released an updated second-generation SUV with a new design, a redesigned interior and new additional equipment packages.
The Volvo ХС60 is a dynamic mid-size SUV produced since 2008 by the Swedish manufacturer Volvo Cars. It may be FWD or 4WD. It also has hybrid versions. As of 2020, the market of Israel offers the second generation of the Volvo XC60 which is the best-selling Volvo car (as of 2009-2015).
The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) crowns the Volvo XC60 for the best safety indicators in the ‘Large urban SUV’ category. At the New York Auto Show, the SUV wins as ‘Car 2018’. By the way, the XC60 is the car of Robert Pattinson who plays Edward Cullen, one of the characters of the Twilight movie.
First generation
The first generation was produced between 2008 and 2017 and restyled in 2013. Presented at the Geneva Motor Show, the XC60 is based on the P3 platform. Yet the implementation of the new SUV is shared between Land Rover and Volvo, both companies owned by Ford. Most of the details for the first generation are made at Volvo’s factory in Sweden, while it’s Land Rover in England that works on the off-road performance.
The hybrid version, Plug-In Hybrid, was born in 2012. In 2013, the SUV was restyled. The restyling changed the front and rear parts and the headlight optics of the SUV. The interior boasted of the graphic dashboard and the control paddles under the steering wheel. The fuel consumption was reduced.
Second generation
The new XC60 was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2017 is based on the SPA platform produced by the Chinese Geely company. The platform shows good side because it is also used for the S90, V90 and XC90. The chassis of the ХС60 provides an optimal balance between comfort and mobility thanks to the strong, light and technological construction of the suspension. These are the double wishbone transverse suspension at the front and the innovative multilink suspension with composite transverse spring at the rear. The air suspension makes the SUV even more comfortable by isolating the car’s body from the road and attenuating wavy surfaces. However, the road clearance height is adjusted according to driving style and speed.
The new SUV is larger than its predecessor. Plus, among the advantages of the model the manufacturer mentions the interior that becomes much roomier. There is enough room for two rows of seats, the trunk also became roomier. Regardless of this, the car is still good for narrow parking lots

The Volvo ХС60 of the 2019-2020s has an ‘athletic’ exterior. It has deep embossing on the doors, a forward grille, accentuated lines and sharp facets on some components, including bumpers as well as well-recognized ‘Thor’s Mjollnir’ design LED headlights that have become a brand symbol of the latest Volvo models.
The ХС60 meets all the safety requirements of our time. All versions are equipped with the City Safety automatic braking system, which allows to avoid wrong-way traffic and obstacles at the speed below 30 km/h. The front seats are equipped with whiplash protection (WHIPS). The car is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system. Pilot Assist, a semi-autonomous steering system, assumes the functions of driving, acceleration and braking at speeds below 130 km/h on the well-marked road.
