The Genesis G70 is a luxury sedan by the Genesis brand from Hyundai Motor Group, based on the excellent car Kia Stinger. The G70 has been produced since 2017, and so far there is only the first generation, since it was originally designed very well and does not even need restyling (as of 2021). It can boast of an exquisite and moderate design, high performance and excellent driving characteristics. And it has an optimistic future. Stinger and Coca-Cola
The Kia Stinger, on which the Genesis G70 is based, traces its roots to the GT concept unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and the Kia GT4 Stinger unveiled at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. The production version was designed by Peter Schreyer (designer of many German models and the Kia model range) and Gregory Guillaume, chief designer of the European Kia studio in Frankfurt, under the leadership of Albert Biermann, the former BMW M Technical Director. According to Guillaume, the Stinger’s design was inspired by a Coca-Cola bottle, which he found suitable for designing a classic travel car, in accordance with the Engineered by Excellence concept. In 2017, the manufacturer released the first generation Stinger. It turned out to be a very high-quality, strong and dynamic car, combining German solidity and South Korean technology. Experts highly appreciated the model, including it in the European Car 2018 list. Moreover, the Stinger made it to the North American Car and Utility and Truck of the Year 2018 finals.

Therefore, it is not surprising that when Peter Schreyer was developing the G70, he decided to use the well-known and highly regarded Stinger instead of any old reliable European or Korean model, which he also knew very well, since he himself designed them. The Stinger proved to be an excellent creative platform, so the G70 was built very quickly. In 2017, it was presented at the Olympic Park in Seoul as a luxury sedan capable of confidently competing with luxury models from Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Infinity.
The exterior of the G70 was supposed to be the key factor in attracting car enthusiasts. Luxury cars are chosen by people who are not particularly concerned with moneysaving and who are difficult to surprise with driving performance. At this level, all cars are good, which makes the design one of the determining factors in their choice. At the same time, the luxury car segment is oversaturated with the most powerful brands that can boast of their perfect capabilities from the wheels to the roof. In this context, the Genesis was a bit late and needed to look especially good and attractive in order not to get lost among the powerful trend-setters.
Schreyer did an excellent job in combining two different concepts of dynamics and elegance in the vehicle design. The G70 had to be both eye-catching enough to appeal to young buyers and moderate enough to catch the eye of the sophisticated connoisseurs with deep pockets.

Some elements are worth noting separately. For example, unlike many prominent brands, the G70 has a really attractive radiator grille. Let’s face it, many automakers are forced to follow the lead of stereotypically thinking car enthusiasts, keeping the radiator grille pattern, which was designed 70-80 years ago, and any deviations from tradition cause rejection and really affect sales. Although old radiator grilles can simply interfere with effective movement. The premium brand Genezis was created recently, so developers could create absolutely modern models without bowing to traditionalists, and here we have Crest Grille, a wide, but not overly modern, technologically verified and handy radiator grille.
Fender vents reduce turbulence around the wheelhouse at high speeds. The air intake behind the front wheel is designed to optimize airflow efficiency when driving at high speeds. Another highlight is the Genesis classic Quad Lamps, the ultra-slim LED daytime running lights that make the car look modern and dynamic. In profile, the G70 is pleasantly long, harmonious and precise, with the front face being balanced by the rear end. Overall, the car is very balanced. The interior features high-quality materials, ergonomic devices, many useful options, a wide view from all sides, a lot of free space, well-placed seats, and controls placed exactly where you need them. There are no references to the past, but at the same time the car is free of sparkling multi-colored digital whistles of unknown purpose for millennials who are greedy for everything new. Following the idea of moderation, Genesis offers a few trim levels for the G70, including 2.0T Advanced, 2.0T Elite, 2.0T Dynamic, and 2.0T Sport M/T. But all of them are saturated with a sufficient number of options and are equipped with sufficiently powerful engines and an extremely high-quality progressive chassis.
This is what a classy Gran Turismo sports liftback, Kia Stinger, can become if you apply to it skills, creativity and a desire to be among the luxury segment leaders. It took the automotive public two years to appreciate the new Genesis G70 and its ability to combine all the possible features. So in 2019, the model won a number of awards: North American Car of the Year, Best Car by Motor Trend Car of the Year, Car of the Year at the Detroit Auto Show, Best New Car by Autotrader, Best Sedan with Panoramic Roof by the Southern Automotive Media Association and even Best Winter Sedan by the New England Motor Press Association. All of these awards are rightfully deserved.
