The BMW M2 is a sports version of the coupes and convertibles manufactured by BMW, formerly part of the BMW 2 Series, a series of compact C-segment cars. The Israeli market currently offers the first generation BMW M2 coupe restyled in 2017, as well as a new, more powerful version, the 2018/2019 BMW M2 Competition.

Exterior

The restyled BMW M2 coupe received an updated optics. The headlights have retained their shape, but have become fully LED, with the diode sections made in the form of polyhedrons. The shape of the taillights has not changed either, but their composition has been updated. The car has received numerous sports details: a front bumper with large air intakes, larger fenders, 19-inch forged aluminum wheels, dual exhaust pipes. Despite the 4-seater configuration and only two doors, the new M2 is quite functional, offering the trunk of 390 liters, while the rear seats fold in parts.

Interior

The BMW M2 features an improved iDrive multimedia system with updated menus and improved graphics. The interior is trimmed with Alcantara and carbon fiber. The car is equipped with sports seats upholstered in genuine leather, a sports-type multifunctional steering wheel and a specially designed gear selector, as well as kicking plates with M-designation. The entry-level version offers an automatic climate control system, heated front seats, a rich lighting package, a six-speaker stereo system, a Hands-free+ USB system, a keyless start system, and a front sliding armrest. The Professional navigation system includes an iDrive touch controller and an 8.8-inch display.

Powertrains

The restyled car has kept its 3.0-liter N55 engine with a TwinScroll turbocharger with a capacity of 370 hp, sports suspension settings and active differential. However, the creators have announced the appearance of a new version of the BMW M2, which will be equipped with a more powerful engine.

BMW М2 Competition

The supercar went on sale in 2019. The new BMW M2 Competition features an all-black grille, a front bumper with enlarged air intakes and side mirror housings, like those of the BMW M4. Adaptive LED headlights and the Shadow Line package are standard equipment.

The updated model has received an S55 turbo inline-6 series engine. The M3 and M4 series models are equipped with exactly the same engines. Unlike the old N55, it is the best in the M version. The 3-liter engine is capable of producing 410 hp at 5,230-7,000 rpm, which allows you to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 280 km/h. During operation, it emits a pleasant growl. In addition to the engine, the model features larger front and rear brakes, updated M Sport seats and a modified body with good aerodynamics. The engine compartment houses the famous carbon fiber arc-amplifier (weighing only 1.5 kg), available on the M3 and M4 models. This should make handling even faster and more precise, although the curb weight has increased by 55 kg compared to the original car (up to 1 550 DIN).

Modifications

The Israeli market offers several modifications of the new BMW M2 coupe:

  • The M235i is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 306 hp, which allows you to accelerate to a maximum of 250 km/h (speed is electronically limited). At the same time, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The engine is complemented by an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
  • The M2 Competition comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine with 410 hp and 560 Nm, complemented by a 7-speed robotic gearbox (option). This version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, developing the maximum speed of 280 km/h (with M Driver’s Package). At the same time, the entry-level version with a 6-speed manual transmission accelerates in 4.4 seconds, developing the maximum speed of 250 km/h. In both cases, the models are rear-wheel drive only.
