BMW X1. The modern city dweller
BMW X1 is a compact five-seat crossover from the German ‘BMW’ company that has been in production since 2009. Nowadays the Israel market offers 2019-restyled versions of the second generation BMW X1 SUV models.
First generation
The first generation BMW X1 models were introduced in 2009 and were manufactured up until 2015, having undergone some restyling in 2012. First X1 vehicles were based on the platform of the BMW 3 series estate car model but had a different car frame and an electrohydraulic power steering system. First X1 models had either rear-wheel drive (sDrive modification) or four-wheel drive (xDrive modification). In the ranking of the German ‘Technical supervision association’, X1 vehicles ranked second as the most reliable used cars of 2019 in the age category of 8 to 9 years.
Second generation
The second generation BMW X1 models were first introduced in 2015 and are still being manufactured to this day, having got a restyled version in 2019. The second generation X1 vehicles now have front-wheel drive, with more expensive trim versions having an automatic four-wheel drive with an electromagnetic coupling in the rear-wheel drive system. BMW X1 became the first German front-wheel drive model to come after BMW 2 series.
In the European safety ranking of 2015, the X1 crossover got the highest possible ranking of five stars.
Based on the BMW UKL2 platform, the new X1 vehicle is now bigger in size but smaller in ride height compared to the vehicles of the previous generation - which leads to its off-road capabilities becoming a little less advanced. However, the new BMW X1 has now got a more dynamic acceleration performance, with a better automobile efficiency and reduced weight. In the European safety ranking of 2015, the X1 crossover got the highest possible ranking of five stars.
2019 restyling
In the process of 2019 restyling, BMW X1 got a new radiator grille with its signature ‘nostrils’, bigger front bumper air inlets as well as fog headlights. Apart from that, the new BMW X1 model now also has a plug-in hybrid – a function that used to be available only for the stretched trim versions developed for the Chinese market.
BMW X1 2019/2020 models are equipped with lots of premium class options and intelligent security systems, with a bigger passenger compartment and a better design.
