Mercedes AMG C-Class Cabriolet. 4th generation, 2018 restyling
The Mercedes AMG C-Class is a powerful sports series of compact executive cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz (Germany) since 1994. The model is based on the bestselling C-Class Mercedes cars. At various times, the series was offered as a sedan, an estate and a 3-door hatchback. The third generation also started featuring a coupe body, and a cabriolet appeared in the fourth generation. In 2021, the market offers the fourth generation cars, released in 2013, which have already undergone restyling. The AMG family received the modernized technical equipment and several interior improvements. The AMG C-Class is currently available on the Israeli market in coupe and cabriolet bodies (as of 2021). Our review will tell you about the new Mercedes AMG C-Class Cabriolet.
A cabriolet is a car for dreamers. For those who love romance and unity with nature. It has an exquisite and elegant design that draws the eye, showing the personality and status of its owner, especially if we’re talking about the Mercedes AMG C-Class Cabriolet. Its interior is the kingdom of exclusive finishing materials, verified ergonomics and uncompromising comfort. The manufacturer perfectly understands that such cars must primarily provide an unforgettable driving experience. That is why the cabriolet comes with an excellent powertrain range, which is the quintessence of advanced developments and legendary German quality.
Exterior
In 2013, the manufacturer introduced the cabriolet in the AMG C-Class range within the fourth generation. The car is built on the modular MRA platform with a high content of high-strength steels and aluminum alloys. The cabriolet looks almost the same as the AMG C-Class Coupe, featuring large 18-inch wheels, double chromed exhaust system pipes, AMG body kit around the body perimeter. However, the cabriolet has a differed top, which is folding and fabric. And this soft option is available in two versions: standard and optional multi-layered (to provide improved sound and thermal insulation qualities). It takes 24 seconds for the top to transform, and it can be done on the go if the speed does not exceed 50 km/h. Another difference is the reduced trunk volume, as you need space for the folding top. The restyled cabriolet has slightly redesigned bumpers, LED headlights as standard and optional matrix optics. The 2-door 4-seater cabriolet is 4,751 mm long, 1,877 mm wide and 1,404 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm.
Interior
The interior of the 2018/2019 Mercedes AMG C-Class looks quite similar to the coupe. The car is four-seater, featuring standard sports seats with built-in head restraints. The car is distinguished by special upholstery color combinations, AMG inscriptions and aluminum elements. The cabriolet’s fabric top is offered in four color options: black, dark brown, dark blue and dark red.
Powertrains
In Israel, the cabriolet is offered in a single modification, called the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic, which is the four-wheel drive version equipped with a 3-liter V6 engine. Its output of 367 hp has grown to 390 hp. The torque is the same and equals to 520 nm in the range from 2,500 to 5,000 rpm. It did not affect the dynamics: the new cabriolet accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 250 km/h. Combined fuel consumption is 9.7 liters per 100 km. The driving electronics programs were slightly modified to enhance driving pleasure.
The car comes with an AMG SpeedShift TCT 9G automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system. By default, only 31% of the torque is transferred to the front axle, and the remaining 69% is sent to the rear one. The suspension of the cabriolet is completely independent. The cabriolet features two transverse levers at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear. The entry-level version has electronically-controlled adaptive shock absorbers.
Equipment
In general, the 2019/2020 Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic Cabriolet is well-equipped. The basic options include: keyless entry, LED optics, sports suspension and much more. Israeli versions are equipped with a 10.25-inch color monitor, an autonomous cruise control and climate control with deflectors for the rear passengers, 360-degree camera and PARKTRONIC and Park Assist system for parallel and perpendicular automatic parking, electrical opening and closing trunk and a 5.5-inch color information screen on the dashboard, as well as much more.
