The TT RS is the most powerful and fastest version of the compact premium TT model, developed by quattro GmbH, Audi’s sports division. The car can come as a coupe or a roadster with a convertible top. The four-wheel drive two-door vehicle combines corporate traditions with an outstanding technical foundation. In 2021, Israeli buyers can purchase the third generation Audi TT RS coupe after the restyling of 2019.

Exterior

The third generation Audi TT RS is based on the MQB platform (Modular transverse toolkit). A 2-door 4-seater coupe is 4,201 mm long, 1,832 mm wide and 1,344 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,505 mm. The trunk volume of the coupe is 305 liters.

The new Audi TT RS coupe really looks quite similar to the base TT model, but differs by a more aggressive front bumper with enlarged air intakes, a splitter and a different radiator grille with silver edging and the ‘TT RS’ and ‘quattro’ words. The rear end of the restyled 2019/2020 TT RS features an elegant rear wing, a bumper diffuser and large oval tailpipes. The car has new 19- and 20-inch wheels. The TT RS is the brand’s first production model with optics that uses the finest organic light-emitting diode (OLED). These lamps are available for an extra charge and have an unusually bright and uniform light. Matrix headlights can also be ordered, but the basic trim level feature conventional LEDs both at the front and at the rear.

Interior

The interior of the TT RS coupe resembles the interior of the R8 supercar: it is laconic and minimalist. All information is displayed on the display, which has replaced the traditional instrument cluster. Its appearance can be adjusted to the driver’s preference. There is an RS-mode, which places the tachometer in the center of the screen, and also displays the torque scale, tire pressure and side-overload indicator. Moreover, the car has a new steering wheel, which looks sporty and comprises the buttons for starting the engine and changing the driving modes of the Audi drive select system (there are four of them).

The new Audi TT RS is equipped with sports leather seats, decorated with contrasting stitching and RS badges. The interior is decorated by metal pedal pads and carbon fiber trim. It is pleasant to see the luxurious finishing materials and the impeccable level of assembly.

Powertrains

The second generation car features a different engine with the same configuration (in-line five-cylinder, 2.5-liter volume). However, the engine is now made of aluminum alloy. The new turbocharger develops a higher pressure (1.35 atm. instead of 1.2 atm.). Plus, there is a more efficient intercooler, and fuel injection is combined (into the manifold and directly into the cylinders). The engine has become 26 kg lighter and more efficient, producing 400 hp (instead of 340 hp) and a torque of 480 Nm (instead of 450 hp).

The RS-version of the Audi TT is equipped with a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. There is only the quattro all-wheel drive transmission with a multi-plate rear-wheel drive, which is a very cool option. The dynamics of acceleration to 100 km/h is impressive: it takes only 3.7 seconds (instead of 4.3 seconds). The maximum speed is limited at around 250 km/h. The combined fuel consumption of the coupe is only 8.4 l/100 km.

The sports car features an independent MacPherson strut suspension at the front and an independent multi-link suspension at the rear. It is equipped with adaptive shock absorbers with variable stiffness at the front and at the rear. The car has a steering rack with a variable gear ratio and an electromechanical power steering.

Equipment

The equipment of the 2020/2021 Audi TT RS coupe includes: 6 airbags, air pressure sensors in the wheels, front and rear parking sensors, Mmi and Virtual Cockpit with a 12.3-inch screen, etc. The Bang & Olufsen 680-watt sound system is available as an option. It is unique and consists of 12 advanced speakers positioned to enhance the experience and absorb vibrations.
