2021 Pagani Huayra R Coupe. 1st generation
The Pagani Huayra R is the final version of the Huayra model, produced from March 2021. This is a two-seater coupe with a mid-engine layout. It comes with a V12 engine and is destined for a track (it won’t be suitable for normal roads). The coupe is called the “track demon”.
The Pagani Huayra civilian coupe and roadster versions are no longer produced, but the wealthy racing car enthusiasts have a chance to buy the Huayra R, produced in batches consisting of 30 units. The car is far from complying with the FIA regulations, fulfilling only the safety requirements for the GT class: an integrated frame, a fire extinguishing system and six-point belts. As for the rest, the sports car is a perfect combo of design and technology from Horacio Pagani and his team.
Body
The Pagani Huayra R monocoque is made of proprietary Carbo-Titanium HP62 G2 and Carbo-Triax HP62 composite materials, whereas the body is traditionally carbon fiber. The suspension is aluminum. The engine weighs only 198 kg, while the gearbox weighs 80 kg. The new design has made the car lighter: with a dry weight of only 1,050 kg, the new hypercar weighs 168 kg less than the lightest Huayra BC road coupe.
The well thought-out aerodynamic body kit generates a ton of downforce at a speed of 320 km/h. It is distributed between the front and rear of the vehicle in a ratio of 46:54 throughout the entire speed range. The front end of the racing car features a pair of new side air intakes that not only distribute air flow, but also help cool the ventilated carbon-ceramic brakes (Brembo). The new Pagani model has 19-inch forged aluminum wheels and Pirelli P Zero tires. An aerodynamic fin is integrated into the roof air intake.
Suspension elements are made of forged aluminum alloy. Suspension design comprises independent double wishbones, coil springs and adaptive dampers with electronic control and communication with the active aerodynamic systems.
Engine
Pagani Automobili has developed the engine from scratch specifically for this model in collaboration with the famous German company, HWA AG. This is a 6-liter V12 naturally aspirated direct fuel injection engine. It can spin up to 9,000 rpm and produces 850 hp and 750 Nm, while the maximum torque ranges from 5,500 to 8,300 rpm. The engine makes the Huayra R the most powerful Pagani, ahead of the Huayra Imola coupe and the Huayra Tricolore roadster.
The Italians claim that this is not only the most powerful naturally aspirated V12, but also the lightest. They have decided to make the engine easy to maintain. Thus, its service interval equals to 10 thousand km, which is quite long for this kind of power.
The car has a completely new, 6-speed, unsynchronized sequential gearbox. It is rear wheel drive. A new exhaust system made of Inconel, a nickel-chrome heat-resistant alloy, is responsible for the exhaust sound. Its pipes are three times thinner than those of conventional road cars, and have a ceramic coating. The creators have decided to make the exhausting of the Huayra R sound like the motors of the 80s formula racing cars. The car comes with mufflers that can be fitted for driving on tracks with limited noise levels.
Prices and destination
Pagani plans to build only 30 Huayra R models, but this is already double the batch of the Zonda R, the latest version of the Zonda supercar. Just like with it, the Italian manufacturer will test new technologies and solutions on the final version of the Huayra prior to adding them to the next sports car. According to Pagani, the Huayra R is a laboratory for future models.
Prices start at 2.6 million euros, which is 300 thousand euros more than the minimum amount that was asked for the road Huayra BC. At the same time, the aforementioned Imola and Tricolore cost much more, 5 and 5.5 million euros, respectively.
