The Honda CR-V is a compact SUV manufactured by Honda Motor (Japan) since 1995. It can be both front and four-wheel drive. There is also a hybrid modification. In 2021, the fifth generation SUV can already be found on the market. Released in 2016, the fifth generation Honda CR-V is comfortable, safe, stylish and roomy. This model is one of the leaders in the compact SUV segment. The restyled version of the fifth generation was presented by Honda in September 2019. Exterior has not changed much, but the equipment has been significantly modernized. Several new technologies and features have been added, including those related to better safety. Let’s find out more about the distinctive features of the restyled SUV.

Honda engineers have made every effort to make the new fifth generation Honda CR-V truly comfortable, easy to handle and able to overcome off-road conditions. The modern CR-V SUV is capable of solving completely different tasks. Thus, it provides the owner with maximum interior space, it can be agile and nimble on city streets, and it can be powerful and tenacious on a country road.

Exterior

The 2019/2020 Honda CR-V has acquired new bumpers with complex chrome trim, and a contrasting unpainted plastic stripe emphasizes the rough off-road styling. The front face of the CR-V now looks more harmonious. The design of the rims and the shape of the exhaust pipes (trapezoidal instead of round) have also been changed. The restyled version features tinted taillights.

Interior

However, the new Honda CR-V standardly offers a wide variety of trim options, and the restyled SUV’s interior has been slightly changed. Thus, the site on the central tunnel has been modernized, integrating wireless charging for smartphones and other gadgets with a pair of USB ports being installed next to it. Some interior details are made of soft plastic. The multimedia system is equipped with a 7-inch touch screen.

The list of equipment includes a driver information interface with a built-in monitor in the central part of the dashboard in combination with analog sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, an electronic parking brake, fully adjustable seats with a 12-position electric drive and a memory function, heated seats and steering wheel.

The wheelbase of the 2020/2021 Honda CR-V is 2,660 mm, and it is considered one of the roomiest SUVs in its segment that offers a decent legroom for passengers in both rows. The interior space is sufficiently wide (1,550 mm) and high (1,185 mm). The standard trunk volume is 522 liters, but it can also be 1,084 liters with the seats folded down -.

Powertrains and chassis

Instead of a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine (187 hp), the vehicle now features a 1.5-liter turbo-charged four-cylinder engine coupled with a CVT. The engine produces 193 hp. Another option is the CR-V Hybrid that comes with a 2.0-liter (145 hp) petrol engine operating within the Atkinson economy cycle. When driving slowly, it doesn’t engage the wheels, but only drives the generator, which charges the traction battery (it is located under the trunk floor). The SUV is driven by an electric motor with 184 hp. But in case of high loads, the petrol engine connects directly to the wheels, helping the electric motor. The version comes with no gearbox, and the maximum total output reaches 215 hp and 315 Nm. The hybrid version can have both front and four-wheel drive, and it will take 8.8 or 9.2 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, respectively, and the top speed is 180 km/h. The basic 1.5 Turbo modification accelerates to 100 km in less than 10 seconds. The CR-V has traditionally independent suspension, with the MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. The vehicle is equipped with disc brakes (front ventilated) and electric power steering.

Equipment

The restyled 2021 Honda CR-V comes as standard with the Honda Sensing set of safety features, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist; an automatic braking system that reduces the possible consequences of a frontal collision, as well as when recklessly reversing. The list of basic equipment also includes automatic high beam control, blind spot monitoring, wide-angle rear-view camera, rain sensor. More expensive versions are equipped with an electric tailgate and much more.
