Peugeot 5008 SUV. 2nd generation, 2020 restyling
The Peugeot 5008 is a vehicle manufactured by Peugeot (France) from 2009 to the present. It has been initially produced as a 5- or 7-seater compact van. Since 2016, it has become a front-wheel drive SUV, available in both 5 and 7-seater versions. In 2020, a restyled version of the second generation SUV was released. This very version can now be purchased in the Israeli market (as of 2021).
Released in 2016, the second generation SUV is built on a fundamentally different platform. The new Peugeot 5008 acquired the most advanced and ultra-modern elements that PSA could offer at that time. In 2020, the SUV underwent a scheduled restyling. The restyled model is exactly what we’ll cover in this article.
Distinctive features
The 2020/2021 Peugeot 5008 is an advanced and functional 5- or 7-seater SUV with a striking design, high-class comfort and dynamic handling. The SUV is 4,641 mm long, 1,844 mm wide and 1,646 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm. The design of the restyled SUV combines elegance and modernity and demonstrates the perfect balance of grace and strength.
Exterior
The restyled SUV has the redesigned front end, featuring a new frameless radiator grille with a large model index above it, vertical ‘fangs’ of running lights, as well as LED headlights that come as standard. The front end sports a unique texture, recognizable optics, a new metallized bumper fairing and high-gloss black side air intakes. The fog lights were replaced by an additional mode of the main headlights, which is activated simultaneously with the rear fog lights.
The taillights are also LED, and the reversing sections are now disguised and discreet. Chrome inserts extending the headlight line to the rear spoiler and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels add additional finishing touches to the dynamic and sporty exterior of the new Peugeot 5008. For a surcharge, you can get a special Black Pack, which includes a black painted roof, wheels, mirror units, etc.
Interior
As before, the new Peugeot 5008 has three separate seats in the second row, and a two-seater third row can be provided for a surcharge. The vehicle has a new 10-inch media system screen. The interior is finished with better and more pleasant to the touch finishing materials, plus there is a frameless rear-view mirror and two USB connectors for the second row. There is a choice of driving modes (Eco, Normal, Sport). Adaptive cruise control now resumes movement even after a complete stop, however, if its duration does not exceed three seconds. The night vision system recognizes people or animals at a distance of 200-250 meters in front of the vehicle.
Equipment
The restyled SUV has three main and three ‘intermediate’ trim levels: Active, Active Pack, Allure, Allure Pack, GT and GT Pack. In Israel, only Active, Active Pack and premium option are available.
- Active: Six airbags, digital dashboard, 1-zone climate control, 8-inch media system, keyless entry, LED dipped headlights, cruise control, light and rain sensors, front and rear parking sensors, rear camera and 18-inch wheels.
- Active Pack: Advanced Grip Control system for selecting ‘off-road’ modes, front and rear LED headlights, 2-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control and start-stop system, multifunction steering wheel, keyless entry system, push-button start, reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, rear camera, roof rails and 18-inch wheels.
- Premium version: Tinted glass, sun blinds in the rear doors, panoramic roof, interior lighting, front seat folding table, imitation leather interior trim. Among other things, the premium version includes an extended range of electronic assistants, power foldable mirrors, electric seat adjustment, heated seats, electric fifth door and hands-free trunk opening system.
The night vision system is optional and only for the top version. A new media system with a 10-inch display and navigator can be ordered separately.
Modifications
Interestingly, the 2021/2022 Peugeot 5008 still does not have hybrid versions, although, for example, the Peugeot 3008 does. As for the engine range, there are two petrol options and one diesel option. The vehicle can be equipped with a PureTech 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 130 hp and PureTech 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 180 hp. The first version is capable of accelerating to the first 100 km/h in 10.2 seconds with the maximum speed of 196 km/h, while the second version does it in 8.3 seconds with the maximum speed of 220 km/h. A BlueHDi 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine with 130 hp accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.8 seconds, with the maximum speed of 190 km/h. The average fuel consumption is 5.2 liters per 100 kilometers. All SUVs are equipped with front-wheel drive and a modern 8-speed automatic transmission.
