Introduced in 2012, the Renault Captur SUV has inspired Renault to create a very similar compact SUV for countries with simpler requests and difficult road conditions. The model was introduced in 2016. The vehicle is produced and sold in Russia, Brazil and India. It was named Kaptur and is technically very similar to the Duster model. The name of the model is reminiscent of the English word ‘capture’ or ‘cap’ (‘course’ in French).

In Israel, you can purchase the second generation Renault Captur (2019). The Israeli Captur is equipped with a 1.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 131 or 154 hp, coupled with a 7-speed EDC dual-clutch robotic gearbox. The model is front-wheel drive only. There is also a mild hybrid MHEV version with 140 hp. It is based on an inverter starter, alternator and small 12-volt lithium-ion battery. In 2021, the most affordable version costs 126 791 shekels (including the licensing fee).

Important!

The first generation

This Kaptur differs from its sibling with the similar-sounding name by its larger body dimensions and increased ground clearance. Thus, the Renault Kaptur is 4,333 mm long, 1,813 mm wide and 1,613 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,673 mm. The vehicle has not only a completely comfortable interior, but also a spacious trunk.

Production of the model first started in the Russian Federation. The vehicle was equipped with 1.6-liter and 2-liter gasoline engines. The smaller engine produced 114 hp and could be paired with a manual transmission or a CVT. The 2-liter unit with 143 hp was coupled with a 4-speed automatic transmission from the 90s. All-wheel drive versions received a transmission with three modes: front-wheel drive, automatically connected front-wheel drive and forced four-wheel drive.

Next, production of an unpretentious model by Renault began in Brazil and India, and the local versions were given the European name ‘Captur’. Currently, the SUV is no longer produced in India, but it is still available in Brazil.

2020 restyling

Russian Renault Kaptur was the first to undergo restyling, which took place in October 2020. The vehicle received a more expensive chrome radiator grille and freshly designed wheel rims. Moreover, starting from 2020, the SUV will be built on a modernized, albeit old, B0 platform, which results in a different suspension (due to springs and shock absorbers), the electric power steering instead of the hydraulic mechanism, and the reach-adjustable steering column. The interior features a different front panel, and the center tunnel has become taller and more comfortable. The new media system and other small details make the vehicle look better.

Much to the horror of those who appreciate the simplicity and reliability of the components, the 2-liter engine was replaced with a new 1.3-liter turbocharged TCe engine (150 hp and 250 Nm), which is paired with a CVT. But the palette of body colors has been expanded. In November 2020, the Brazilian version was also restyled.
