The Maxus EUNIQ 5 is an all-electric version of the EG50 minivan, produced since 2019 under the Maxus brand by the Chinese company SAIC Times Power Battery System Co., Ltd. First unveiled at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show, the EG50 is a functional and modern minivan. The electric EUNIQ 5, introduced simultaneously with it, looks quite similar to the original model. Israeli buyers can currently purchase the first generation of the new 2019 Maxus EUNIQ 5.

By the way, an updated minivan of the 2022 model year has already been released in China. It features a new 7-inch dashboard, as well as a 12.3-inch multimedia system screen. Moreover, the vehicle can also offer an HUD head-up display. The Level 2 advanced driver-assistance system ADAS is optional. The 2022 Maxus EUNIQ 5 is equipped with an engine producing 177 hp and a 70 kWh battery. The latter provides a driving range of 510 km. However, this indicator corresponds to the Chinese NEDC cycle.

Exterior

Overall, the new Maxus EUNIQ 5 keeps the original design of the fuel-powered version. It is a large vehicle with a large radiator grille, even with two, two-story ones. The radiator grilles are just for the beauty, but the charger is placed in the center of the large lower grille. The minivan looks balanced, serious, sporty and modern. At the same time, it is big, straight and angular. Everything is done in favor of the roomy interior! At the same time, the minivan features gray multi-spoke wheels, chrome taillights and blue trim on the lower part of the tailgate. As for dimensions, the electric minivan is 4,825 mm long, 1,825 mm wide and 1,778 (1,800) mm high. The wheelbase is 2800 mm, exactly the same as that of the fuel version. The curb weight of the EUNIQ 5 is 1,810 kg and the maximum operating weight is 2,335 kg. This is very impressive.

Interior

A simple body design reflects the utility of the model and provides a spacious interior. The interior of the electric 7-seater minivan is almost identical to the gasoline model. The EUNIQ 5 uses the same conventional passenger compartment layout as the G50, with a large central infotainment touchscreen, digital dashboard, multi-function steering wheel, full-size panoramic sunroof and 2+2+3 seating configuration.

Powertrain

The 2020/2021 Maxus EUNIQ 5 comes with a motor producing 174 hp and a torque of 310 Nm. The electric vehicle is quite dynamic, accelerating to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. It is equipped with a 61.6 kWh battery, providing a driving range of up to 420 km (specifications). This means that the EUNIQ 5 has a pretty small driving range, and therefore suitable for short distance travel within the city. But an updated 2022 minivan will have a battery capacity of 70 kWh, which will provide a driving range of 510 km.

By the way, it is worth noting that Maxus also offers a PHEV version, but so far only in its home market. Dubbed the EUNIQ 5 Plug-In, this particular model features a 1.3-litre turbocharged Ecotec gasoline 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor that together produce 240 hp and 385 Nm of torque.
