Infiniti QX55. SUV and coupe rolled into one
The Infiniti QX55 is a compact five-door coupe-like SUV, based on the second generation QX50 and launched in 2020. First, in the spring of 2021, the SUV came to North America, after which the vehicle appeared in other regions of the world. However, it is not available in Israel yet. The new cross coupe has the same platform as the regular SUV, with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, CVT, front-wheel drive and rear axle clutch. Let’s look for differences from the “sibling”, but first, let’s find out all the most interesting details about it.
- The new Infiniti QX55 is more American than Japanese. Yes, the technology comes from parent Nissan, but it is produced in the North American continent, in Mexico;
- It was the Americans who worked on the QX55, and the world premiere took place in the USA;
- The QX55 will not be sold in large quantities in Asia, it is intended for the markets of the USA, Canada, the Middle East;
- The manufacturer doesn’t call it an SUV, but a coupe SUV, and a tilted roofline along with a protrusion on the trunk lid justify this term;
- The new QX55 is not a direct descendant, but the official heir to the now legendary Infiniti FX. However, the latter was larger. The new model is more compact.
Let’s compare the QX55 and QX50 models
Exterior
The QX55 has a more aggressive exterior styling, with a different front bumper and a larger grille. The rear end also has a different design, because the fifth door and the whole ‘stern’ are made differently. New LED lights, a different location for the tailgate button, which is hidden in the emblem. The vehicle is 39 mm longer (4,732 mm) and 56 mm lower (1,622 mm) than the QX50. The wheelbase and ground clearance are the same (2,800 mm and 219 mm). The coupe-like vehicle also has standard wheels with a diameter of 20 inches.
Interior and equipment
But the interior of the two cross-models is the same, featuring analog devices and two floors of screens, and the QX55 has Apple CarPlay support, which the 50 doesn’t have. The coupe-like SUV has a different, more striking, interior trim design. The rear row of seats has inherited a longitudinal adjustment within 150 mm from the original, but the QX55 trunk is more modest, reaching 762 liters and 1,532 with the backseat folded down.

Engines and chassis
Another hallmark of the 2020/2021 Infiniti QX55 is the sportier suspension tuning. The engine is the same 2-liter turbocharged engine with variable compression ratio (272 hp and 380 Nm). The cross-like SUV is equipped with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive. The front-wheel drive versions of the QX50 are not available for the QX55.
