Jaguar XE. New concept of sporty sedans
Jaguar XE is a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive four-door compact executive car manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover since 2015. In 2020, the Israeli market offered the first generation Jaguar XE sedan after the 2019 restyling.
Tested in 2017, the Jaguar XE was voted best in a class by the EURO NCAP safety rating. Demonstrating the highest level of safety and receiving high marks in the relevant field, XE is assisted by crash protection systems in all categories, for example, ‘Protection of passengers and pedestrians’. The XE is equipped with a variety of active safety systems, including an emergency braking system. All this makes it possible to provide an international safety standard.
The new Jaguar XE sedan not only announces the brand’s return to the compact luxury car segment but also aims to compete with the BMW 3 Series as well as the Mercedes C-class.
First generation
Designed by Ian Callum and presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014, the first XE is not only the smallest but also the most high-tech sedan from Jaguar. The car is based on the new modular iQ [Al] platform. Created from the ground up, it involves the abundant use of aluminum, as well as the adhesive and riveted connection of the elements of the power frame, and so far no one can boast of anything like this in this class of cars. Jaguar applied technologies that were previously honed in the executive XJ and the sporty XK, and today are used in the production of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs. The aluminum frame is not only particularly strong and rigid, but also allows the thickness of the body panels to be reduced without compromising their characteristics, and contributes to the lightness of the body. The curb weight of the new Jaguar XE in the basic version is only 1474 kg, which allows it to outperform competitors from 10 to 70 kg.
Exterior
The design team, led by Ian Callum, has designed an elegant, sporty, and even slightly conservative-looking sedan. Jaguar remains loyal to tradition, that’s why the XE has many features in common with other models of the brand. For example, the design of the XE has the features of the F-Type. There is a “J” pattern of daytime running lights, front grille, side air intakes, and taillights. The distinctively sculpted bonnet creates the Jaguar XE’s purposeful, muscular appearance. Even when the car stands still, it looks dynamic due to the rising centerline of the body. The dynamic and stylish appearance of the Jaguar XE not only attracts attention but also gives the sedan excellent aerodynamics. The drag coefficient of the body is 0.26 Cx.
Interior and interior equipment
The Jaguar XE’s five-seater cabin features a modern, ergonomic layout with a slightly sporty front seat and plenty of rear space, bringing it closer to business class in terms of comfort and sports cars in driving feel.
Tested in 2017, the Jaguar XE was voted best in a class by the EURO NCAP safety rating.
Only high-quality materials are used in the interior of the Jaguar XE 2019/2020. And the expensive versions look truly luxurious. The ‘Sport’ versions have sports-inspired interiors, although they still remain luxurious and classic. In total, 10 interior color schemes were proposed, including lighting and seat color. The interior is finished in high-gloss black as standard with textured aluminum accents and natural wood accents. The Jaguar XE will be the first Jaguar to feature electric power steering. The instrument design is intended to emphasize the sporty purpose of the sedan.
The 2020 Jaguar XE features an 8-inch touchscreen display and an all-new InControl infotainment system with the latest technology including Bluetooth, audio streaming, USB mobile connectivity, voice control, and even Wi-Fi. Once connected to the system, the various applications on the mobile device are accessed using the XE touchscreen display. A laser projection dashboard is optionally available, which projects high-contrast color images onto the windshield.
