Kia Niro is a compact J-class hybrid SUV produced by the South Korean automobile maker, Kia, since 2016. Both front and all-wheel drive versions are available.
The Niro 5-Door SUV is Kia’s first hybrid SUV. It is driven by both a 1.6-liter petrol engine with 105 hp and an electric motor with 43 hp. And it all comes with a 6-speed semi-automatic transmission. The Kia Niro can reach a top speed of 162 km/h, while the fuel consumption is only 3.8 liters per 100 km.
The first generation
This compact SUV or ‘elevated’ station wagon was created on the Hyundai Ioniq platform, which will be used for the future production of environmentally friendly cars. When creating it, South Korean engineers tried to prevent common mistakes of existing hybrids. The two Kia Niro’s hybrid engines (petrol and electric) are complemented by Eco-DAS, which gives the driver the fuel-saving tips, for example, where to coast or where to use the moments for recharging the batteries. And the Predictive Energy Control makes it possible to reach your destination with the lowest fuel consumption, using previously stored energy where necessary.
That is why, literally in the first month of sales of the Kia Niro in South Korea, a record number of hybrid vehicles were sold, including the first hybrid car from Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Ioniq.
Upgraded versions
In 2018, a rechargeable battery version of the Kia Niro appeared, the volume of which increased to 8.9 kWh. In 2019, the next upgrade of the popular Niro hybrid SUV made it possible to successfully implement a number of new technical and design solutions. According to experts, the new 2019 Kia Niro model can confidently claim a leading position in the rating of compact hybrid cars of the entry price level.

The new 2019 Niro model differs from its predecessor in a lower drag coefficient of the body, an ergonomic configuration of a comfortable interior and modern functionality of on-board equipment. The new model include: an exclusive platform, improved driving characteristics and faster battery charging.
The interior of the 2019 Kia Niro is equipped with a multi-standard multimedia system, a full-fledged set of automotive electronics and security systems, wireless charging functions for smartphones and connecting the modern external electronic digital gadgets. The 330 liter trunk compartment can be almost doubled thanks to the partial transformation of the backseat.
