Audi RS5 2019. Bodywork, Exterior. Liftback, 2 generation, restyling

The Audi RS5 is the most powerful version based on the current generation Audi A5. The restyled second generation RS5 family representative available as a coupe and a liftback was presented on December 10, 2019. It was in 2019 that 25 years have passed since the release of the first Audi ‘RS’ production car, the Audi RS2 Avant estate, which was developed in collaboration with Porsche. The current RS continues a glorious tradition, offering excellent dynamics, stylish design, excellent handling, superb equipment and a high level of safety. The liftback, now part of the RS5 family instead of the first generation cabriolet, is a truly practical solution. What features does the 2019 Audi RS5 Sportback have?

Exterior

The restyled 2018-2019 Audi RS5 liftback features new LED optics with intermittent running light stripes and an even wider front grille with narrow slots between it and the edge of the hood. The rear end has a new taillight pattern, which makes the model easy to recognize. The restyled liftback is 4,783 mm long, 1,866 mm wide and 1,387 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,826 mm. The tailgate, which opens with the rear window, is very convenient as it provides an opening for folding into the cargo compartment and retrieving it back. The trunk volume is 465 liters.

Interior

The interior hasn’t changed much. After the transition of the multimedia system to touch screens, the usual rotating MMI controller located on the central tunnel disappeared. The infotainment system now features a 10.1-inch touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit has new graphics. The new Audi RS5 Sportback, sold in Israel, has a combination seat upholstery in nappa leather with red honeycomb stitching, electric sports front seats with heating and massage functions, three-zone climate control, Bang & Olufsen sound system with 19 speakers with 755 W, electric trunk.

Powertrains

The 2020/2021 Audi RS5 coupe is still equipped with a 2.9-liter V6 biturbo engine. It still produces 450 hp and 600 Nm, is paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The dynamics have not changed either: the liftback is able to develop the first 100 km in 3.9 seconds (the coupe has the same dynamics). The maximum speed is 250 km/h. The direct injection engine consumes 12.1 liters of fuel per 100 km within the city and 7.4 liters outside the city. The driver can choose from five driving modes: comfort, auto, dynamic, RS1 and RS2. The last two can be customized and can be activated using a button on the steering wheel.

The car comes with a fully independent multi-link suspension. The all-wheel drive transmission is equipped with a center differential, which by default distributes torque between the front and rear axles in a ratio of 40:60, but it can go up to 15:85 to ensure perfect traction of the rear axle with the road. The car can be equipped with an active rear differential that controls the thrust vector, as well as adaptive dampers with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC). A sports rear differential is available as an option.

Equipment

The equipment list for the 2021/2022 Audi RS5 Sportback looks impressive. For example, it includes Audi Pre-Sense City, a system that scans the road with a camera and warns the driver with visual and audible indications when it detects a possible collision with another vehicle or pedestrian. If the system ‘sees’ a possible accident, it first warns and then brakes the car (range up to 100 m). There is also Side assist (scanning blind spots up to 70 m), Active Lane Assist Control, adaptive cruise control (designed to adjust the speed in accordance with the speed of other vehicles), as well as standard electronic traffic control systems (ABS, stabilization system, hill start assist), adaptive headlights with automatic high beam control, light and rain sensor, etc. The car can have ceramic brakes, panoramic roof, heated steering wheel and heated rear seats, wireless charging and much more.
