Genesis G80 2017. Bodywork, Exterior. Sedan, 1 generation

The Genesis G80 is a quality, well-built, solid, dynamic, responsive mid-size premium sedan, luxurious but not pretentious. It has been produced since 2017 by Genesis, a sub-brand of Hyundai Motor (South Korea). If you want to buy a luxury sedan, but do not know what to choose, you should start with this particular model… By the way, you can stop at it, as it is worth it. The second generation, which is currently available in Israel (as of 2021), has inherited all the advantages from the first generation.

The first generation

It was produced from 2017 to 2020. The first G80 is a completely new model built on a new platform. First, the sedan was presented as the second generation Hyundai Genesis (DH), and then was renamed into the G80, as Genesis Motor became a separate division of Hyundai. The design of the G80 is not original, but it can be called exemplary. If someone wants to know what a modern sedan looks like they should see this car, as it is the best representative of modern classic sedans, featuring balanced and discreet lines, moderately soft contours, moderately aggressive front end, moderately ‘sporty’ rear end without any playful elements.

The interior of the car fully reflects the manufacturer’s concept of luxurious modesty, excluding pretentiousness and false modesty. The car can boast of elegant finishing materials, wood inlays and matte dimmed colors. No one can ever say that a Mercedes or a BMW looks better. Not better.

If someone wants to know what a modern sedan looks like they should see this car, as it is the best representative of modern classic sedans.

The first-generation G80 came with a standard 8-inch touchscreen display with navigation, integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8-way power and heated front seats (and 4-way electric drive for the lumbar region), an adjustable steering wheel, and more.

The first generation offered the following standard and advanced safety options:

  • automatic high-beam headlights;
  • LED daytime running lights;
  • rear view camera;
  • heated mirrors;
  • automatic wipers;
  • adaptive cruise control;
  • dual-zone automatic climate control;
  • keyless ignition;
  • blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert;
  • lane departure warning system, and much more.

The first generation Genesis G80 could be equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 engine with 311 hp, a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 420 hp that accelerated to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, slightly slower than the average engine of a luxury sedan of this size. But who dares to call such an indicator weak? Definitely not me. Moreover, the car had a very large trunk for the segment, reaching almost 0.5 cubic meters.

The second generation

The second generation G80 has been in production since 2020. This is the same wonderful sedan that plays out in fresh colors, given that it costs less than other similar sedans, and of exactly the same quality. Since the G80 was originally a high-quality car, and it entered the market for the first time only in 2017, no significant changes were made to its design. New features include an improved blind spot monitoring system, a slightly redesigned infotainment screen, and a more powerful turbocharged V6 engine.

The second generation of the 2020/2021 Genesis G80 is the same wonderful sedan that plays out in fresh colors, given that it costs less than other similar sedans, and of exactly the same quality.

The new Genesis G80 has received two additional packages of options: Sport and Ultimate, which expand its capabilities to the utmost luxury level in both finish and power. For example, the Sport version offers a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 365, 19-inch wheels, adaptive suspension and carbon fiber interior trim. And the Ultimate has a 5-liter V8 engine with 420 hp and a range of luxury options.

Conclusion

The 2021/2022 Genesis G80 is quite suitable to drive the president of one transcontinental company to the office of the president of another transcontinental company, and the car will fully correspond to the status, as it has an unusually long wheelbase for its class, with plenty of legroom and headroom for all passengers, plus the sedan looks very confident, but not pretentious.

At the same time, the new G80 is devoid of the excessive heaviness characteristic of huge luxury cars of the highest class, so the sedan is suitable for everyday trips for a relatively high-paid middle rank employee of the company, without the risk of surpassing the boss in terms of coolness.
