SUV Mercedes GLS. 2nd generation 2019
Mercedes GLS is a full-size all-wheel drive luxury S-class crossover from the German brand Mercedes-Benz, produced since 2015. In 2020, the second generation of the 2019 model year SUV was available in the Israeli market.
New 5-door crossover for 2020 can be either 6-seater or 7-seater. Due to the increased space inside, it could accomodate the third row of seats. The number of seats can be reduced to 6 by removing the miidle seat in the second row. The new SUV is larger its predecessor: it has increased by 77 mm in length and by 22 mm in width. So, the length is 5207 mm, the width is 1956 mm, the height is 1823 mm and the wheelbase is 3135 mm. The volume of the trunk is 355 liters as a minimum and 2400 liters as a maximum.

The new GLS has a completely new active suspension EACTIVE BODY CONTROL. It includes functions of scanning the road surface, dynamic cornering. Each wheel can autonomously adjust to road conditions and its share of the occupancy of the cabin. The suspension effectively absorbs shock and compensates for roll. There is an Off-road package with a downshift for off-road conditions.
The car interior is much larger than it was before. The center console has handrails, large rectangular air vents, decorative elements of wood, sports steering wheel. The salon is being transformed using an electric drive. When passenger seats are fully folded down, the trunk volume is 2,400 liters. When material handling the rear of the vehicle can be lowered and the fifth door can be opened or closed hands-free.
The interior now has a large digital display with dashboard and MBUX multimedia functions. It can be controlled by voice and recognizes not only direct commands but also indirect ones, not formulated according to a strict algorithm. It can draw augmented reality for safe driving. Interior design can be selected using pre-formed configurations and supplemented with decorative elements from the ‘Exclusive’ package, reaching the desired level of individualization. For passengers in the second row, there are optional touch screens for MBUX infotainment system on the front seat backrests with full functionality up to the control of comfort systems. Due to the Acoustic Comfort Package, outside noise is hardly to be heard when you are in GLS. In addition to reinforced soundproofing solutions, it includes laminated safety glass with an acoustic film. Moreover, it has a layer that absorbs infrared radiation.
Modifications
In Israel, new Mercedes GLS is available in two all-wheel drive versions: GLS 350 d4 MATIC with a 3-L diesel engine of two powers: 286 or 330 hp, and GLS 580 4 MATIC with 4-L V8 petrol engine of 489 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Crossover is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds, and the top speed is 250 km/h. All the motors are turbocharged. The transmission in both versions is automatic: 9GTRONIC.
Trim versions
Luxury Mercedes GLS 2020/2021 is available to Israeli buyers in top trim versions – Luxury and Ultimate Luxury with third row of seats and an extended list of options. All models in the basic version have metallic color. Models are equipped with a sunroof and panoramic roof, decorative interior lighting, tinted glass, leather interior with massage, heated and front ventilated seats, door closers, air suspension, LED headlights with adaptive lighting, and R21 alloy wheels.
Basic off-road options are no less than 7 airbags, central locking, front and rear child seat attachment systems, surround view camera, adaptive cruise control, driving mode selection, front and rear parking sensors with automatic parking system, blind-spot monitor, road traffic control, driver fatigue monitor, electronic brake assist systems and collision avoidance system and electronic stability control.
Modern multimedia system controlled via smartphone and voice, Android Auto and Carplay, navigation, decent power pack for resetting and heating system, including a hands-free trunk opening system and power-folding mirrors, multi-zone climate control, multifunction steering wheel engine start/stop button, keyless access is not a complete list of fittings of a Mercedes GLS 2021.
