Update:

Israeli buyers can choose between two versions of the new Outlander with a 2.5-liter engine with 191 hp (front-wheel drive) or 187 hp (four-wheel drive). Plus, the engine is linked to a CVT.

The Mitsubishi Outlander is a five- or seven-seater SUV, manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors (Japan) since 2001. In April 2021, the manufacturer released the fourth generation Mitsubishi Outlander in North America. Later, the flagship SUV will continue its journey around the world. It was unveiled in February 2021 on Amazon Live, becoming the first car to make such a debut.

Exterior

The new Mitsubishi Outlander has become noticeably larger than the previous one. It is 4,709 mm long, 1,862 mm wide and 1,748 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,705.

The design fully complies with the latest generation Dynamic Shield concept. The main headlights, located in the massive bumper along the edges, are lower than before, which ensures better illumination of the road; above them shine horizontal narrow strips of running lights, placed immediately under the hood line, rather high, so they will be clearly visible on the road. The front face looks very modern, memorable, but unusual and therefore controversial. The 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander features a flat roof with a small visor spoiler, an interesting stamping pattern on the sidewalls, and a different shape of windows in the rear pillars. The rear end is decorated with the narrow taillights of an unusual shape. The body color palette includes eight options. The maximum rim diameter equals to 20 inches.

‘Based on the 'I-Fu-Do-Do' product concept, which means 'authentic' and 'majestic' in Japanese, the new Outlander is a reliable SUV that looks modern and features high quality materials, designed for those looking to expand their horizons and boundaries’
Takao Kato, CEO of MMC

Interior

The new SUV can boast of a completely new interior, finished with better quality materials. The front panel comprises a horizontal section with integrated air ducts and an 8 or 9-inch screen of the multimedia system. The climate control unit (two- or three-zone) has traditional analog rotary switches.

The central tunnel features a driving mode switcher. The media system is controlled by a touch screen (it can be 8-inch or 9-inch, depending on the trim level). The basic trim levels offer analog devices, with a 7-inch screen between the scales, while the expensive versions have a 12.3-inch display. Moreover, the model comes with a 10.8-inch head-up display. Due to the increased size, the legroom for the front and rear passengers has been increased on average by 2.5 cm.

Powertrains and chassis

The vehicle is based on the CMF-C/D platform manufactured by the Renault-Nissan Alliance, so technically the new Outlander is a copy of the Nissan X-Trail. The engine is also by Nissan (2.5 l, 181 hp), its output is 8.9% higher, and fuel efficiency is 2.6% higher compared to the previous generation. The SUV is equipped with a CVT by Jatco (Japan), with eight fixed gears and the ability to manual shifting. When driving, the step-by-step control changes speeds in the same way as a multistep automatic transmission.

The all-wheel drive version uses an electronically controlled 4WD system with a hydraulic clutch driven by an electric motor. The rear axle torque is available from the start and provides a confident starting from standstill that is only available to an all-wheel drive vehicle in difficult conditions such as driving uphill on ice. Mitsubishi engineers have changed the chassis settings to ensure predictable, precise handling, safe cornering and a pleasure to drive.

The all-wheel drive version comes with an improved integrated S-AWC system. Based on the previous vast experience, the specialists have equipped the new Outlander with an electronic system AYC (Active Yaw Control), which was used on sports models in the second half of the 90s and improved handling, allowing you to enter a turn at a speed unavailable to other vehicles. Sensors determine the steering wheel angle, degree of skid, torque, brake pressure, wheel speed and other factors, which ensures the most accurate and safe driving.

Driving modes provide excellent handling and a sense of safety and reliability on any road.

The 2021/2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is equipped with driving modes that make it possible to adjust the vehicle to a variety of driving styles and driving situations. There are six modes for 4WD models and five modes for 2WD models. Normal - for unhurried driving, Tarmac - for sporty driving on asphalt roads, Gravel - for unpaved roads, Snow - for snowy roads, Mud - for improved handling on slippery roads, mud, deep snow and similar conditions.

The driving modes provide excellent handling for the AWD version, as well as increase the potential of the FWD version and give a sense of safety and reliability on any road. Each mode is accompanied by an image that illustrates the driving situation and helps the driver to make the right choice. Multi-link suspension and electric power steering will maximize your enjoyment of precise handling.

Equipment

The new model is already available on the American market. There it comes with a seven-seater interior, although in other markets the third row will probably be an option. In this case, the second row will offer a longitudinal adjustment and a backrest, divided in a ratio of 40:20:40. The interior can have up to eleven airbags, including the central one between the front seats, designed to protect the driver and front passenger from hitting each other.

The 4th generation SUV has adaptive cruise control with a lane-keeping function, MI-Pilot Assist, which keeps the distance between vehicles and keeps the SUV in the center of the lane. The vehicle can read speed limit traffic signs to automatically change the set speed, and use the navigation map data to automatically adjust the speed. Plus, the owners can use their smartphones to display the position of the vehicle in the parking lot or to make the car blink its headlights and determine where it is parked in the dark.

The new Mitsubishi Outlander is equipped with a remote control, with which you can start the engine and turn on the climate control in advance before driving to create comfortable interior conditions both in winter and in summer. There is also a contactless door opening function, which can be used from a sufficiently long distance. The equipment of the top versions includes three-zone climate control, leather upholstery with diamond stitching and a Bose sound system with ten speakers. The PHEV hybrid version is also expected to be released.
