The Morgan Plus Six is a sports car manufactured by Morgan Motor Company from the UK. It has been produced since 2019 in the roadster body.

Introduced in 2019, the new roadster has combined classics with new units. The Plus Six is fully consistent with the traditions of the brand, which is more than a hundred years old. Its design is inspired by the previous models. The company is known for its love to traditions, but this car surprisingly contains 99% new parts. The four hood supports are the only thing that the new model has borrowed from the preceding Plus 8.

The first generation

It has been produced from 2019 to the present (as of 2021). The new retro roadster is based on the new CX-Generation platform, which took three years to develop. To do this, the manufacturer had to expand the staff of engineers, and it is very significant for such a small company: from 10 to 30 people. The supporting structure consists of aluminum profiles and sheets, but the passenger seats are still encased with an ash timber frame. At the same time, the thickness of the wooden beams has decreased, since the wood does not carry serious loads. The torsional rigidity of the body has doubled, and the weight has been reduced by 97 kg. As a result, the car weighs 1,075 kg. The body is 3,890 mm long, 1,756 mm wide and 1,220 mm high. Another advantage of the new platform is that it takes four weeks to assemble each car, compared to eight for the previous Plus 8. Thus, the manufacturer is able to double the production volume, up to 300 cars per year.

The suspension of all wheels of the car, despite its retro-type, is independent: there is a dual-lever suspension at the front and an independent four-link suspension at the rear. The new roadster has almost the same size as the Plus 8, but the wheelbase has increased by 20 mm. The new layout of the units made it possible to increase the length of the passenger compartment by 200 mm at once. Plus, tall passengers will feel comfortable in this Morgan.

The team, led by Morgan Chief Designer Jonathan Wells, has managed to ‘package’ modern units in a completely new shell, retaining Morgan’s style, dating back to the 1930s.

The interior is designed in the retro style, featuring natural and carefully selected finishing materials. The new dashboard is more driver-focused than ever. The interior personalization level has become even higher, and the number of combinations of materials and paint colors is infinite. One of the hallmarks of modern life is the LCD information display. There is an interesting feature in the form of door speakers, discreetly hidden by the leather upholstery.

Engine

For the first time in the history of the brand, the new Morgan Plus Six has acquired a turbocharged engine. The roadster comes with a three-liter 6-cylinder in-line BMW engine generating 335 hp (torque of 500 Nm). The car is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission by ZF and rear-wheel drive. As for electronic assistants, there is only the anti-lock braking system.

The car with a dry weight of 1,075 kilograms (145 kilograms less than the Plus 8 model) can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds. The roadster’s top speed is 267 km/h.
