Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign. Italdesign and Nissan GT-R celebrate the 50th anniversary
In 2018, while celebrating its 50th anniversary, the famous Italian company Italdesign decided to make its own version of the famous Nissan GT-R sports coupe. In 2019, this car also turned half a century, as a powerful modification of the Skyline GT-R sedan was presented back in 1969. The GT-R50 was revealed in May 2020. All cars were almost immediately sold out and customized according to the customers’ wishes, which made each car look unique. The price of the sports car is 990,000 euros, and its supplies started in November 2021.
The new Nissan GT-R50 Italdesign is based on the production Nissan GT-R Nismo Coupe and was released in a batch of 50 cars. The exterior was developed by Italian specialists in conjunction with the British and American design studios of Nissan, and Italdesign was responsible for the technical part.
Exterior
So, how does the special version differ from the original car? All body panels are new, the roof is 54 mm lower, the height of the coupe is 1,316 mm, the length has increased to 4,884 mm (+94), and the width has grown up to 1,992 mm (+97). The car has acquired a new lighting technology, a retractable wing with an adjustable angle of attack at the rear, and original 21-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport racing tires. Italdesign has given the new GT-R50 a striking feature, which is a gold-colored body part extending from the front of the body and running along almost its entire length. The hood has received a more striking shape, and narrow LED headlights extend from the wheel arches to the air intakes. The branded double round lanterns are very elegant, being an independent part comprising thin rings of light around the circles of emptiness.
Interior
The interior of the Nissan GT-R50 Italdesign is also solid. The seats are upholstered in leather and suede, the steering wheel is carbon fiber, and the dashboard, doors and futuristic gear knob (like a racing car) feature gold accents reminiscent of a gold-colored exterior. The car does not have a multimedia system screen, and all information is displayed on the digital dashboard.
Engines
The 2021 Nissan GT-R50 features a modernized 3.8-liter V6 two turbine engine with more powerful turbochargers and intercoolers, new shafts, pistons and other internal parts. Ignition, intake and exhaust systems have been improved. Engine output has increased from 600 hp and 637 Nm to 720 hp and 780 Nm of torque. The robotic gearbox has been modified and the suspension has received Bilstein DampTronic I electronically controlled shock absorbers.
Next Nissan GT-R
The next generation of the legendary sports coupe is expected at the end of 2022. The manufacturer is going to apply the strategy that it has already used for its other sports car, the Z. Thus, the new Nissan GT-R will be built on the same platform and equipped with the same engine. An important innovation will be the electrical superstructure in the form of a starter-generator connected to a 48-volt lithium-ion battery. Therefore, the next Nissan GT-R will definitely be a ‘mild’ hybrid.
